I could wander Sarah's house all day. Everything in her house was organized and everything seemed to have a place. Yet, I still felt as if I had been a burden on Sarah. Why would a complete stranger want to help me? In what the world is now, it seems like everyone should be fending for themselves. Sarah was different than most, which I was fond of.

My feet swept across the wooden floor as I walked around slowly, Sarah being close by just in case I were to fall. Sarah had been telling me stories about her house before the apocalypse, I enjoyed these stories.

"I grew up in this house, y/n. When I was younger, my sister and I would run up and down these halls." Sarah nudged her head towards a small hallway that went to a few bedrooms and a bathroom.

I smiled small before looking back over at Sarah. Sarah soon shook her head as the smile disappeared from her face, as if it was stolen. I didn't want to ask questions because from the looks of it, something happened to her sister. I took a shaky breath before looking down.

It was silent for a few moments.

My eyes wandered around a bit before latching on to something. A smile appeared across my lips as I looked up at Sarah. "Is that a record player?!" I asked her, with excitement.

"Why yes it is." Sarah said, a slight smile appearing on her face as well as she walked over to the record player. I slowly followed Sarah over.

"Have you seen one before?" Sarah asked.

"No, I'm not that old!" I said jokingly.

Sarah chuckled a little and hit my shoulder gently, "Hey!" She said.

I laughed as well and smiled up at Sarah. "I'm kidding! I've heard about them but I've never seen one in the flesh. How does it work?"

"I'll show you." Sarah said softly before bending down and grabbing a record from a small cabinet under the record player. She set the record down on the record player and placed the needle on top, flicking on a button. The record player began to play a song.

I couldn't help but smile. Sarah just made this awful world feel ten times better, just by her presence.

*Later that day*

Sarah had insisted that I still rest in bed even though I completely disagreed. I felt as if she had been my savior and that it was just a given rule that I had to listen to everything she said. After all, she knows what's best for me.

Gentle footsteps soon approached the door of my bedroom. I looked up to see Sarah standing in the doorway. She had been wearing a backpack and had a gun holstered on her right hip. My eyes widened as I noticed she had been dressed up for something.

"Why are you dressed like that?" I asked, a bit of worrisome coming over me. "We aren't leaving here are we?" My heart began to pound inside of my chest.

"Hey hey... It's okay, y/n." She said softly.

Sarah dropped her bag on the ground and walked over towards me quickly. She sat down next to me in bed and caressed my face. She began to rub her thumb over my cheek as she looked into my worried eyes.

"I have to run into town. I have to get more medication for you. I won't be long." She said.

"But, I don't want you to leave."

"I know. I know. I don't want to leave you either, but it's what's best. What's important now is that you get better and stronger. You need the meds."

I took a shaky breath, tears staring to fill my eyes.

Sarah gently rubbed her thumbs across my cheeks, wiping the tears away.

"I'm scared." My voice cracked.

I didn't know how to survive without Sarah. She had helped me all this time and honestly I don't think I would be able to survive a second without her being by my side.

"I won't be long. I promise. The town is just 10 minutes away. Everything outside is boarded up. It is very safe inside. Just stay inside and you will be fine. I will never let anything happen to you."

I don't agree with her leaving but if the medicine will help me get better, I guess it's what's best. After all, I trust her.

I soon felt a soft kiss upon my forehead before watching Sarah leave the room. The front door shut abruptly as I stood up and stumbled to the window of the bedroom. I watched as Sarah quickly walked into the forest, her figure soon disappearing.

I felt alone and scared. I was all alone in this house, unknowing of the outside world. The house was so silent, you could hear a pin drop. I traveled back over to the bed and sat down, every move I made, I winced in pain. I brought my knees to my chest, wrapping my arms around them and burying my face into my knees. I cried quietly.

Some time had gone by, but I kept my ears open for any sign of Sarah.

I don't know why I had felt such attachment to this woman. Is it because she was so eager to want to help me right away? Should I be more cautious of her? I don't completely understand this world yet. Should I even trust her? Of course, right?
