More White Lies

Forth POV

"G-Gone?" I was shocked. "Y-you m-mean..."

Mama Siony was visibly surprised too when he saw my reaction. "Oh! No! Did you think that... No no!" She said while shaking her head. "Beam just went abroad for greener pastures. He'd gone out six months ago because he got accepted for job."

"Phew! You got me worried for a second there ma. Hehe!" I chuckled to get rid of my nerves.

"Oh you're still quite a joker Forth! Haha! Beam told you about him leaving right?"

I blanked for a second. Beam didn't. I was about to say the negative when she suddenly interjected.

"Anyway, let's talk inside. I've been meaning to speak with you ever since you and Beam broke up. But Beam made me swore that I will not seek you out, saying that you are entitled to your privacy. But since you're here, I'll take the opportunity." Mama Siony led me inside towards their small living room where Angel was munching on eclairs in each hand.

"Oh baby, you're a mess!" Mama Siony ecclaimed as she saw Angel covered in chocolate around the mouth. "Forth, let me just get a towel so I can clean up Angel. Go ahead and sit down on the couch."

I did and sat near Angel. "Is it good baby girl?"

"Yes phi brother-in-law!" She responded in glee then took a bite of the eclair on her right hand.

"Hey, hey, slowdown, no one is going to take the eclair away." I chuckled as Mama Siony came back with a damp towel.

"Oh my little baby girl, you're such a glutton. Haha!" She said while wiping Angel's face. "Those will be enough for now okay baby? Let's leave some for your phi chais and papa."

Baby Angel nodded.

"Mmm!" Mama Siony kissed baby on the cheek. "What will you say to your P'Forth?"

"Thank you phi brother-in-law!" Angel said with a dazzling smile.

"Can I ask for kiss on the cheek as thanks?" I quipped. I leaned my head closer to her and a loud kiss was heard.

*mwah!*

"Angel, go play outside again. Your P'Forth and I will talk about something important."

"Okay, mama. See you later phi brother-in-law!" Angel ran outside to probably go back to her playmates.

"Such a lively kid." I thought out loud.

"She is. She's the youngest and the only girl among the siblings so all her older brothers are doting her. She's oblivious to how hard our life is because she was born when Beam was already in college." She made a long look at the open door before turning to me.

Her demeanor changed. Then, she eyed me with the most icy stare that I ever experienced in my life. "Beam told us everything about the circumstances of your breakup, Forth."

My heart pounded and was instantly ashamed. Of course, Beam needed to explain to them why he went back home after living with me for a year. I dropped my head, embarassed of what I have done to her firstborn son.

There was this uncomfortable silence for a few seconds, until...

"I'm sorry."
"Sorry Ma."

We both said in unison. I was surprised once again. Why was she apologizing? I raised my head and it seemed she was in a bit of a shock too.

"Hmmmp, if you don't mind son, can I go first?" She asked. We both understood that we need to explain what our apology was for so I nodded in agreement.
