Were you selfish? Your skin burned with the desire to use whatever was left of your magic, as Damon's voice echoed in your mind words that you seemed to hear too often. The front door of the Salvatore Mansion sounded as if it had broken from the impact, yet you didn't dare look behind you as your feet carried you away from this place.
They were asking too much of you. You could still feel the ache on your body, a reminder of the last spell you tried to do, and you knew deep inside that if you tried to use your magic this soon, death wouldn't be an impossible scenario. You hadn't asked for any of this. You were thrust into the world of the supernatural, and death seemed to be too much of a price to pay for getting involved.
You just wanted to live a normal life. A scholarship to study art in a place far away from what was then a boring Mystic Falls. This had been the plan ever since you could pick up a pencil and draw. Yet now, the only thing you could think about was whether surviving was too much to ask. Your feet came to a pause when you found yourself surrounded by trees, feeling nature provide you the peace that you needed. You didn't care about the dirt when you sat down, the bark of a tree being your only support. Your eyes seemed to close as you listen to your heartbeat accompany the sound of the wind.
"I have thought I might meet an angel one day, but I had never hoped it would be on earth." A gasp escaped you at the sound of an unexpected visitor. Your eyes shot to the familiar figure that towered over you.
"Klaus." You didn't allow your voice to waver as you started to stand up. "Maybe you want to start announcing yourself. Don't want to add creep to the list of adjectives describing you."
"Sorry, love!" He apologized, yet his voice didn't indicate any remorse. "I didn't mean to scare you. Now, what are you doing here alone?"
"Just wanted some time alone." You stood up to walk away. "But now that you are here, I will have to get going."
"Is everything okay, love?" The question managed to stop you on your tracks and look at him.
"Everything is just peachy." It was simple enough of a task to figure out how to fake a smile on your face, but somehow you just couldn't find the strength to pretend to be okay.
"People who are okay don't go to the forest to have alone time, love." He was quick to point out and you couldn't refute it.
"Okay, I am not having a good day." You admitted despite yourself. "So I would appreciate it if you let me have my alone time."
"Or maybe you could talk to someone about it." The sounds of nature were the only thing that could be heard as you took in that sentence.
"Are you offering to hear me out?" A laugh escaped your lips at the ridiculousness of this suggestion.
"Maybe I am." He agreed, his face not sharing the amusement that was currently evident on yours.
"Would you think that it would be smart for me to spend time with a man that had tried to kill my friends?" You shook your head at the idea.
"I give you my word that I won't harm you if that is what worries you." He was quick to promise you. "You know that I always keep my word."
You couldn't believe that you would entertain the idea, never mind the fact that you would actually consider accepting his offer. When humanity seemed to be in danger, your problems couldn't help but come in second place. Maybe what you needed was indeed someone to hear you out. Even if that someone was the hybrid that your friends rightfully loathed.
"Alright..." you sighed, and a small smile found itself on Klaus's face. "But do one sketchy thing and I am out."
"I promise, I will behave." He guaranteed, and you couldn't help but try to ignore a small part of your brain that seemed to think that his smile resembled one of an angel.
