You swore you would have a stake with his name on it by the end of the day. You refused to acknowledge the approaching form of Damon that stared down not only you but your poor date who had spiraled into a full-blown rant about his job. Of course, Damon being Damon ignored every sign of his presence being unwanted.

"Hey there!" You choked down a snort at his uncharacteristically cheerful tone and your date's fallen expression at being interrupted. "I haven't seen you in a while miss! Someone would think you were avoiding me."

You met his playful glare with one of your own before his eyes moved on to Dan who watched the exchange as if he noticed him for the first time.

"Where are my manners?" He questioned as he offered his hand and one of the friendliest smiles he could master. "I'm Damon, one of her only friends."

Dan shook his hand with a smile mirroring the one of the annoying vampire that seemed hellbent on ruining a night that was going decently so far. "I'm Dan, nice to meet one of her friends so early on."

"Mind if I joined you for a few moments?" he actually managed to look earnest. "At least until my table clears out?"

"Actually, we're-" You started declining but your date seemed to have other plans, perhaps eager to leave a good impression on your "friend".

"Sure" Dan agreed, gesturing the chair as a silent invention that he was welcomed.

"Thank you!" He smiled like the cat that swallowed the canary and you had to fight off the instinct to wipe that smirk off. "He is a real keeper."

"So lovebirds, is this your first date?" Damon asked and Dan's smile widened.

"Yes!" Dan admitted. "Your friend over here finally agreed to give me the light of day and agreed to go on a date with me."

"Finally" Damon agreed. "She can be such a lone... wolf"

You squinted your eyes at him your curiosity peeking. You tried your best not to overthink his choice of wording. You trusted that he wouldn't be that insensitive to tease a person who had only recently turned into a werewolf.

"Seems like she likes you too" Damon continued. "She is trying to make a good impression. Normally she would wolf her food down."

Your trust was misplaced and you should never have given the benefit of the doubt to that little asshole.

"Is that right?" Dan asked with a teasing grin, oblivious to the insinuations Damon was throwing around.

"That's enough, Damon!" You warned unable to hide the scowl forming on your face.

"Don't mind her," Damon reassured Dan, his voice low but filled with amusement as if sharing a fun secret. "She is all bark and no bite."

You were tempted to make him your new chew toy next full moon. Your hands gripped your seat, your breath grounding, doing your best not to lose your temper. The last thing you wanted was to scare off Dan and give Damon the satisfaction of riling you up.

A ringtone sounded off before any awkward silence had the time to settle. Dan winced at the sound.

"Give me a minute guys, it's work" He rose from his seat almost comically running out of the restaurant to pick up the call, leaving you openly glaring at the vampire who had his signature self-satisfied smirk on.

"What on earth is wrong with you, you absolute manchild." you seethed, feeling the blood rushing to your head and had you not been in public you would have tried to snap his neck.

"I'm just trying to get to know my friend's romantic partner." He answered innocently with a shrug as if you would believe that he had no idea what you meant.

"Yeah, right Damon!" the sarcasm dripped off your tongue and he only managed to look more amused. "Leave, Damon. I won't have you spoiling my date with your little comments."

"Please!" he scoffed. "I heard how the conversation was going. A workaholic who likes to listen to himself talking is hardly your cup of tea."

"And how would you know, what my cup of tea is Damon?" you challenged, your brows furrowing.

Damon was not one to turn a challenge down. "Of course, I know. You have told me that you had a thing for a dark, tall, and handsome vampire  if you recall."

The heat on your face seemed to only burn brighter and you tried to fight off the embarrassing memory of your drunken confession to Damon and the even more embarrassing and cruel memory of him turning you down.

"Well maybe I'm expanding my horizons." you bluffed as you crossed your arms. "He is handsome after all."

His expression soured and you felt a weird sense of victory before a realization hit you.

"Wait! Is this what this is all about?" you questioned as you filled out all the pieces of the puzzle.

"What?" He had the nerve to ask and now it was your turn to smirk for the first time.

"You are just jealous I am getting over you." you accused him and his eyes narrowed, finally getting under his skin.

He tried to respond but you left him no chance to answer for himself. " Oh, that's rich Damon."

"So what if I am jealous?" he asked his expression revealing how peeved he was at how satisfied you were.

"You turned me down, Damon." you reminded him. "You said and I quote: "A relationship between a werewolf and a vampire could never work and it was time for me to take a page out of the blondie's and Lockwolf's book."

"Well maybe I am a hypocrite," he snapped. "Maybe I just saw you on a date and I lost my cool. Maybe I like you too and didn't want to admit it to myself."

For beings that were famous for their sharp senses, you certainly didn't hear Dan approaching just in time to heat that last part. A clearing of a throat interrupted the heated stare-off between the two of you.

Your heads snapped towards the man who was standing above you.

"This sounds like a mess," Dan commented. "And I really don't want to get caught in between whatever this is."

"I -" you started but Dan didn't give you a chance to explain.

"It would be better if you didn't lead someone on, just so you know for the next time you decide to go on a date." He grabbed his stuff off the table and turned to leave you alone once again, with a tense silence in its wake.

"Well, I know that your schedule just cleared..." Damon being ever the person to avoid the seriousness of a situation. "How about a date? Maybe I can change your mind about moving on, and give me a chance?"

A sigh escaped your lips. "You will have to try hard Damon Salvatore."
