The ache in your heart continued to exist, even after a month and despite your desire to stay away from everyone and everything, you hadn't allowed yourself to push away your friends.
You still tried to be there for them ,the same way they tried to be there for you because even if you attempted to hide how hurt you felt, they could see right through you.
Your eyes didn't shine as bright when you laughed and a forced smile was always etched on your face. Evident black circles decorated your face and nobody could ignore your slightly swollen eyes. But you tried to look strong, so they helped however they could.
They were with you when the weight that was a permanent resident on your chest, seemed to overwhelming for you to bear and they always respected your desire for some time to yourself. And most importantly they stopped any try of Klaus to approach you.
But as you stared into his eyes when he stood on your doorstep, you realised that a confrontation would be inevitable, no matter how hard you tried to avoid. So you suppressed the urge to close your door before he had a change to even open his so he could talk and decided to speak first.
"Hey Klaus" as your voice cracked, you mentally cursed at yourself for appearing weak.
"Hey" Klaus smiled at you despite his sad gaze."May I come in?"
"Yeah" you stepped aside allowing him entrance.
When you were both seated in your living room, both of you were hesitant to start this conversation but slowly the silence grew torturous, causing Klaus to sigh before he spoke.
"How have you been?"he asked, a weak attempt for a small talk.
"Really good" the sarcasm in your voice made him look down at the floor." How were you feeling after you broke my heart?" The stabbing retort escaped your mouth,as your subconscious grew darker, demanding to at least make him feel guilty." Was the game that I provided you with amusing?"
By the time you finished the sentence his state had returned back to you, with sparks of of annoyance and anger in his blue eyes but before he could do something rush,he tools some deep breaths to relax.
"I...I am sorry love" he began after he was sure that his temper wouldn't control his actions." It is true,it all started with a bet but it doesn't mean that my feelings aren't true."
"At the beginning I couldn't care less if I broke your heart. After all you were only a bet between my brother and I. But as I spent more time with you,it almost seemed impossible for me to get you out of my head. I craved your laugh, your voice even the slight touch of your fingers." He paused his rant, just to observe your reaction and even though you tried to keep up the tough facade,he could see how conflicted you were.
"It was scary you know" he shamefully admired." Falling in love after such a long time, I mean. It is not like I could control it and that made it dangerous to me." His laugh surprised you to no end." Despite my strength I somehow ended up being overly pathetic."
"So what I am trying to say is, that if you could give me a chance to make things like they were before, I swear that I will do whatever I can to not hurt you again." He finished with a hopeful look on his face.
You no longer tried to appear strong, his speech making you feelings and your logic conflict until one had overwhelmed the other.
"You know that I love you"those words brought a smile on his face, but when he heard your sigh his hope, that everything would be back before you learned the truth, started to fade.
"But" this was a dreaded word for both of you." I just can't trust you the same way I did before. And I can't live with insecurities. Perhaps everything would be different if you had told me the truth yourself.
You stared at his eyes that had been covered with sadness.
"And we both know that you didn't intent to do that" you questioned even though you already knew the truth and it was confirmed when he avoided your eyes.
"I... I can't trust you anymore" you came to a painful conclusion.
"How can I earn your trust once again?" He asked, his voice laced with a bit of despair
"I..I don't think you can"you  responded as you felt your heart ache.
"I don't think this is completely true." He denied.
"Klaus.." You tried to stop him but he simply ignored you.
"See you soon" he simply answered,as he left you alone in your living room hoping that he wouldn't make it harder for both of you.
