Time to relax

Meredith didn't move, she couldn't move. Both of her children were asleep at the same time. Willow was curled up on her chest, whilst Oscar slept next to her, his head on Derek's pillow. She ran her fingers lovingly through Oscar hair, small curls sticking up in all directions. Smiling to herself as she took in how much Oscar looked like Derek. He was his double.

Meredith sighed and enjoyed the first bit of peace and quiet she had in days. She knew she should take this time to catch up on sleep but she wanted nothing more then to soak in the bath. A bath. Slowly, she moved out of the bed, making sure not to disturb either of the kids. She was successful in moving out and placing Willow down her in her Moses basket, cheering quietly to herself.

Reaching out, she moved Oscar into the middle of the bed, surrounding him with pillows, to keep him safe. She silently walked out of the room and moved to the bathroom, turning on the water and waited until the bath was finally full. Looking up into the mirror she grimaced, as her hair was thrown up into a messy bun, bags under her eyes and all sorts of stains down her shirt. Never did she think she would trade in her dresses and heels for dirty sweats covered in baby sick but she wouldn't change a thing.

Once the bath was finally full, she stripped out of her clothes and stepped in, sighing as she felt her muscles finally relax. Her head leaned back and she rested it on the edge of the bath tub, sighing in relief as for the first time in a long time, she felt, human.

Meredith stayed in the bath until the water got too cold to be considered comfortable anymore. Climbing out of the bath, she wrapped herself in Derek's robe, drying her hair on a towel as she walked back into her room. Oscar was now sitting up in the bed, rubbing at his eyes as he blinked away the sleep.

"Hey little man." Meredith walked over and took Oscar into his arms. "Did you have a good sleep?" He buried his face in her shoulder, mumbling his response. "Come on let's get some food."

Meredith stood up, keeping Oscar cradled into her arms, quickly checking on Willow, finding that she was still fast asleep. She made her way into the kitchen and prepared a sandwich for herself and Oscar.

"Tanks mama." Oscar smiled up at her whilst he took a huge bite into his sandwich, happily swinging his legs. She smiled at her son, smiling at the fact that she wasn't failing as a mother. Willows cried echoed throughout the house and Meredith pushed herself up.

"Oscar, wait here ok? Mommy is just going upstairs to get your sister, I'll be back shortly, alright." Meredith watched as Oscar smiled up at him, nodding his head causing his blonde curls to bounce on top of his head. Quickly, she jogged up the stairs and entered her room once again, tensing up when she heard Willow starting to cough.

"Not today." Meredith sighed before pulling Willow into her arms and moving back downstairs. She found Oscar sat in his chair still swinging his legs, his plate now empty.

"Mama, I wait!" Oscar exclaimed, grinning widely at her before clapping his hands.

Meredith smiled widely at him, rubbing her hand up and down Willows back.

"Come on, how about we go watch cars?" Meredith watched as her sons eyes grew wide at the mention of his favourite film. "Come on." She held out her free hand and take Oscar's smaller one in hers and lead them into the living room.

Once the film had started, Oscar sat on the floor, right in front of the tv, whilst Meredith adjusted Willow, allowing her to latch on. Her bright blue eyes stared up at Meredith as she ate. Meredith ran her hand over her head and smiled down at her before diverting her eyes towards Oscar.

The front door creaked openly slowly and Meredith turned her head towards the living room door. She waited until Derek's disheveled figure came into view, his hair sticking up in all directions and a frown plastered on his face. Meredith's smile fell upon seeing this and she tapped the spot next to her and watched as he moved and dropped down into the seat, his head falling to her shoulder.

"Bad day?" Meredith asked as Derek nodded on her head. She turned and pressed her lips to the top of his head. "Oscar, look who's home." Meredith said watching as Oscar did a double take before running and throwing himself into Derek's arms.

"Dada! You home!" Oscar exclaimed loudly, squeezing Derek in his arms. Derek smiled widely and wrapped his arms around him, breathing him.

Once Willow had finished feeding, Meredith placed her in Derek's arms and then curled into his side.

"Feel any better?" Meredith turned her eyes towards Derek, seeing that the frown had disappeared off his face. He nodded his head and leaned in towards her, brushing their lips against one another's.

Derek smiled as he held his family in his arms, no matter how bad his day had been at the hospital, it was always made better when he came home to them. He was there life. They were everything.
