Meredith released a huge sigh of relief as she settled into down on to the sofa. She was home. Finally.
Having spent the night in hospital, away from her kids, she wanted nothing more then to bundle them into her arms and hold onto them tight. Derek was currently picking the kids up from Carolyn's insisting that Meredith was stay on the coach and not move.
Letting her head fall back, she closed her eyes and taking in the silence.
"Mama!" Oscar screamed as he ran through the now open wide front door. Meredith smiled wide, lifting her head and opening her eyes to see her son running at her. He flung himself into her arms and she squeezed him tight.
"Hey little man." She kissed the top of his head. "I missed you so much. Where's dada Willow?" Meredith questioned as she looked round the room for her husband and daughter.
"Right here. Oscar come and grab your bag, I've just nearly tripped over it." Derek said as he stumbled into the house.
"Sowwy dada!" Oscar exclaimed before jumping off Meredith's lap and running to grab his bag.
"Mamamamama." Willow all but screamed as her mother came into sight.
Meredith gasped, tears springing to her eyes as her daughters voice blessed her ears. Walking over to Derek she took Willow out of his arms and leaned into his side. Oscar ran and wrapped his arms round Derek's legs, before holding his arms up. Derek scooped him, holding him on his hip as his free arm wrapped around Meredith's waist.
"When did she start saying that?" Meredith asked, turning to Derek, her eyes shining with nothing but pure joy.
"Ma said she said for the first time last night, when she was going to sleep. She must have been missing you cause you know how she loves her down time with you." Derek voice turned to a whisper as he turned and pressed a kiss to the top of Meredith's hair, breathing in her scent.
"When did they get so big." Meredith kissed Willow's fingers that pressed to her lips. "I mean she's going to be 7 months old soon, which means I will be going back to work. Oscar will he start school before we know it and they will grow up to hate me cause I mean I hated my mother so it's bound to happen. I mean I can't do this." Meredith rambled on, panic filling her face and voice.
Derek pulled himself from Meredith's side, placing Oscar and removing Willow from her arms. Meredith began to pace, her arms waving about. He had no idea where this had come from.
Moving across the room he placed Willow down in her play pen before placing his hands on the top of Meredith's arms, stopping her from pacing.
"Mer, where is all this coming from?" His hand reached up and cupped her cheek.
"I don't know." Meredith whispered. "It's just I always feel like I'm not doing enough, like I fainted Derek because I didn't drink enough. I can't even look after myself let alone the kids. What if you wasn't here? I would have fainted and hurt myself, and Willow. Oscar would have been so scared. This...I just..."
Derek pulled her into his arms, squeezing her tight.
"Meredith, I don't know how many times I have to tell you this, but you are the best mom to them kids. There is no one and I mean no one else in the world I would want to be going through life with. You've been there for me more then I could ever ask for over the past few weeks and I'm sorry for the way I treated you. You deserve better. But please Meredith, you need to relax, you know what the doctor said, we need to keep your blood pressure down and you getting stressed isn't going to do that." He kissed the top of her head. "Although, I do know a way how to release some stress, after the kids have gone to bed." Derek leaned down and whispered in her ear.
Meredith giggled, lifting her head off his chest to look him in his eyes. Standing up on her toes, she reached up and pressed her lips against his.
"I love you." Meredith said, her lips still pressed to his as he arms wrapped around his neck.
"I love you too." Derek kissed her once more before they pulled apart. "I think we should get a holiday in before you go back to work. So we can both relax, just me, you and the kids on the beach. We deserve it, what do you think?" Derek watched as a smile formed on Meredith's face.
"It sounds perfect." She brushed her lips against his once again. "Come on, let's go spend time with the kids." Meredith took his hand and pulled him towards the living room, joining their children.
That's how they spent their night, as a family. Plying with their children. Nothing could compare to this, Meredith and Derek stealing glances at one another. Smiling widely. Smiles full of love.
