Meredith woke the next morning, cuddled into her husbands side. Her head was resting on his chest, as she looked at him. Like really looked him. He looked tired. She reached up as ran her finger across his chin, watching as his face scrunched up before his eyes finally opened.
"Hey." He turned to look at the time. "You're up early. What's going on in that mind of yours?" He asked as he cupped her cheek lovingly in his hand before pressing his lips against hers.
"Everything is a mess. I don't how to process all of this, like my mom is dead but she was never truly a mother to me. She was just here for the last few months but we was finally forming a relationship but it was tearing down ours in the process. So it wasn't worth it cause she isn't here now but you are. You're still here and yet I'm pushing you away. You should be here every morning, waking up together in one another's arms, getting the kids ready. But you're not and it's all my fault." Meredith went on and her breathing started getting erratic as she clutched at her neck.
"Hey, calm down. Meredith look at me, hey look at me." Derek took her hand in his and their eyes locked on together. "That's it, just focus on me. That's it. Just breathe." He took big, deep breathes in with her, watching as she finally started to calm down, her breathing returning to normal.
Meredith leaned her head on his shoulder, breathing in his scent, it was calming to her.
"Thank you." She whispered as she curled into his chest even more.
"No need to thank me. It's what I'm here for you." He leaned down and kissed to top of her head, running his hands over her hair.
"Do you have to work today?" Meredith asked, turning her head so their eyes met.
"No, why?" He smiled down at her.
"Can we have a family movie day? Just get the kids and bring them in here and just, you can just hold me? Please." Meredith asked, her eyes looking so innocent.
"I would love nothing more. You grab the kids and I will grab the snacks." He jumped out of the bed and moved quickly round the room. Meredith couldn't help but smile at the way he was practically skipping around the room. She truly had missed this. Missed him.
Meredith pushed herself up and slowly opened Willows door, finding her still sleeping so decided to leave her. Closing the door, she headed down to Oscars door and found him playing with his toys.
"Mama!" He cheered as he ran and wrapped his arms around her legs. "Ook!!" He grabbed her hand and pulled her over to his pile of toys.
"Wow, look at this." She smiled at him as she looked down at his toys lined up perfectly. "Come on, daddy is waiting for us." She kissed the top of his head and watched as Oscar ran out of his room.
Walking into their room, she found Oscar trying to crawl up on to the bed. Laughing, she shook her head before moving over to lift him up and watched as he crawled up the bed and got comfortable in between their pillows.
Derek soon walked in, placing the pile of food down before lifting Oscar in his arms, throwing above his head. Oscar giggled loudly as he wrapped his arms around Derek's neck.
"Where's Willow?" Derek asked as he placed Oscar down, watching as he crawled up and curled into Meredith's side.
"Still sleeping." Meredith smoothed down the curls on top of Oscars head. "You know how much that girl loves her sleep so I'm definitely not waking her." Meredith laughed.
"You're right." He crawled in next to them. "We will leave her until she wakes up." He reached round and pulled them close to him, his free reaching down and grabbing Meredith's hand in his.
Derek would fight like hell to ensure that his family stayed together, he needed them. Moments like this made him realise how lucky he truly was.

So I think I'm going to wrap this story up soon because I'm just really struggling for ideas, that keep it interesting and worth reading. Also, my updating lately has been awful but I've been really struggling with my mental health and I'm not ashamed to admit that. I've just needed to take some time for myself, slowly getting better but my updates will be all over the place.Just thank you so much for sticking with and all your wonderful comments, I appreciate you all so much!
