Leigh stopped as she caught her sights on a man. He stared at her and smirked, waving. He had Logan on his shoulder and a hammer on the other shoulder. Well, what she believed was a hammer. He didn't say anything to her and just walked away. As he did, pieces of metal started flying her way at an increased speed.
With a deep breath in, Leigh focused on the metal. It almost stopped, traveling at a slower speed. She could see where it would hit her and where it would go. Quickly, her body moved to the right, the metal missing her and getting stuck in other objects.
The man stopped and glanced back at her, "you're not normal." He chuckled, he could only imagine what kind of experiment she would be. Logan wasn't a bad prize, but the other one would prove different. "We'll meet again, no doubt." He chuckled, walking away from her.
Leigh watched, frozen where she stood. She wanted to race after him, but he disappeared the farther away he walked. The village wasn't normal, Logan had been right.
Something else was hiding in the shadows, maybe the individual they prayed to.
Maybe no.
It didn't matter, Logan was gone. Now, Leigh was responsible for finding her. It all happened so fast, but she would find a way to find her.
As she started walking towards the way her sister was taken, a rawr echoed in the distance. She stopped in her tracks, looking towards the sound. They weren't even a mile from her current location, whatever they were.
Leigh breathed in, she wasn't sure what to do as she began to look around. She had so many options, but Logan would have known better than her. Logan was the fighter, she was the tactical when it came to fighting. However, Logan wasn't there so she had to figure it out. She breathed in, her heart beat slowing to a normal thump. She began to focus her hearing, looking for anything that could give her any clues.
"Luiza's house, go to Luiza's house, it's safe there! They're coming!"
The only voices she could hear, there was nothing else. She heard no sounds, she heard no screams, just one voice. It was at least two miles away from her current location. It was better to head that way, she could figure out what was going on and gather whatever supplies she needed.
Quickly, Leigh ran to the right. The faster she got away from whatever was coming, the better she would feel. Whether they would catch up to her or not, she wasn't sure. Her hearing focused back on the monsters, they were running, two feet. They were running at a faster speed than any human, but slower than most animals.
"Quickly," Leigh muttered. She had a gun, but it would only last so long. She didn't have an unlimited amount of bullets, she needed to play it close. Glancing back, the snarling and footsteps became louder. She rounded a corner, running towards a larger house.
The door was open, the roof was caved in, windows smashed, but it was good enough just for a few minutes of hiding. She ran inside, shutting the door behind her. She quickly pushed a bookshelf in front of the door and hid under the stairs. She held her breath, closing her eyes so she was able to slow her heart rate.
Whatever it was, she didn't need it to know she was there. She opened her eyes, listening to the snarling and the banging. Footsteps ran around outside, but she didn't move. She needed to focus on keeping her breathing quiet and heart rate down.
A body slammed into the door, hands and nails clawed at the door. They were trying to get inside, but she was thankful to have pushed the bookshelf in front. It would slow them down if not stop them all together.
As she thought that, footsteps ran across the roof and a body fell through the upper floor. It didn't move and blood covered the body. Teeth marks around the neck of the person. She didn't move and just stared.
What was out there? What had she and Logan gotten themselves into by moving into the village? What was the catch, but better yet, what were the things doing this?
Never in her life had she seen anything like it. Sure, there were some monsters she had come across, but nothing like this.
As her mind raced, feet dropped down over the body. It looked human, but she saw the blood on it and how its flesh looked differently. It wasn't the color of normal human flesh, but almost had some sort of blue tone to it. It kneeled down, looking at the corpse and Leigh pressed back to hide in the darkness of the stairs.
The eyes were almost black and its teeth as sharp as razors. It looked around and snarled before jumping out the window. She released her breath, her heart rate calming down. She breathed in, listening to the monsters run from the house. She slowly clawed out from under the stairs, standing up. Her eyes were focused towards the bookcase, there was a large hole in it.
Below her was the corpse, it began to shift and move. It's eyes opened, black, and Leigh whirled around as she heard the movement. It stood up, tackling her and snapping.
The only thing that ran through her mind was what would Logan do? One of her hands pushed back on the monster and she aimed the gun at it. She took one shot and it fell back. She scrambled to her feet and dived out a window away from the door.
She didn't stop there and kept going, running from the house. She needed to get as far away as possible. What she needed to do was head for Luiza's house.
One question did stand out in her mind, how many of those things were out there? Better yet, what were they. They weren't like any type of vampires she had ever dealt with before, but they weren't vampires. They almost looked rabid.
