Have you ever just ran? Took off with nowhere to go in the hope you'll end up somewhere.
It doesn't matter where you end up as long as you get to that point before you break. It's a game of odds with your adrenaline in your hands.
Your mind feels clear and for the first time the air around you seeps into your lungs fully. It doesn't go in muffled or forced. Your body accepts it. Whether it's for the dire need or because you finally feel limitless.
You're in your own world with the exception of the boy holding onto your hand that's pulled you into his world completely. Stripped your barriers and cracked open that cage around your heart allowing it to beat again.
Taking off from the Casino we're sprinting down the nightfall city of Louisiana. The city light glimmers past us and I feel like I'm in a simulation. The feeling of the cool air on my skin and the breeze blows through my hair, flying through my roots.
I have no idea where we're going but it only makes it so more fun. More riveting. With my hand in his as we take off, my other lifts behind me tracing patterns through the cool air.
The coolness between my fingers sends a shock through my body and the laughter that erupts from my chest feels inevitable.
Our shoes stomp on the sidewalk, crunching the gravel beneath us.
"Harry, slow down," I call out to him in a laugh.
"Violet, don't fucking stop."
Pulling me by my hands, our fingers lock and I feel the coldness of his rings pressing into my skin.
"Well, where are we going?"
"I don't know just keep running, will end up somewhere."
We sprint through the street's intersection without waiting for the light to turn. Cars honk and holt to a stop as I push Harry's back, urging him to hurry before we get run over.
"Go, you idiot!" I yell.
A car speeds through the light and Harry yanks me out of the way. Wrapping his hands around my waist he spins me to the sidewalk, lifting my feet from the ground and I take the moment to catch my breath before we take off.
"You okay?"
I nod and he wastes no time pulling me.
Running down the gravel I throw both of my hands in the air letting my head rock backwards.
He whistles. "Look at you, pretty girl."
I laugh, my hands falling to my sides. "You're hot too."
Everything seems to go in slow motion. The visibility of Harry's body, his smile and every touch and feeling of the air against my skin.
Lights flicker past us with each growing neighbourhood we pass.
Watching Harry in front of me I have never seen him this happy. This on top of the world.
Turning his head around, those brown locks blow into his face from the wind.
"Pick up the pace!"
"Shut up, you're whipping me into shape right now." I race for him, our bodies competing.
"Smart-ass. We're not even at the starting line yet!" He yells in excitement. "Let's go!"
Leaning forward, his hand reaches out for mine and I press them together, connecting them once more.
A bolt of laughter surges through my chest that he matches.
"We're almost there." Is all Harry says as we sprint through the night sky.
