So this story takes place during the 93rd Hunger Games and is from the point of view of a character who has nothing to do with any of the characters from the original series. The original series happened, but I changed the ending a little bit. Ok, a lot. Ok, so basically, the only major character from Mockingjay who's still alive in this is Alma Coin, though other characters are referenced. So this should make sense if you haven't read the entire series (though I guess you'll get more of the metaphors if you have) as long as you understand the concept.
