Being on good terms with Yusuke actually felt good. When my baseless anger and ridiculous hatred left my heart, I felt free like a bird. As it was me who was responsible for all the tension, I put extra effort to show Yusuke that I was doing my best to make it up to him. I started to cook breakfast and dinner, doing grocery shopping as well as tidying around everyday. As Yusuke's working hours weren't fixed while mine was highly fixed, I dedicated myself to the chores more so that he didn't have to deal with that on top of his tiring work. Still, he insisted on doing the dishes and doing the cleaning once a week together.
Indeed, it was pretty domestic how we were living... I didn't complain about it though...
Although I was late to discover, I actually missed being a part of a house. Yusuke filled that void I felt after my father's death and I was grateful to him for it. Like I used to do with my father, everyday I waited for Yusuke so we could talk about how our day was. As my job was beyond Yusuke's interest and knowledge, I was letting him talk more. I enjoyed his criminal stories, and understood how much he liked his job. His eyes were lit whenever he talked about catching a bad guy while he was devastated whenever death was involved.
Yusuke was very different from the police officers I knew.
Yusuke was different from everyone I knew...
Like that, days chased each other and we got pretty close. One day when we were sitting on the sofa side by side, watching a suspense movie from his laptop. Suddenly, a random thought popped up in my mind. Trying not to sound whimpering, I asked "do you still remember the time when you stopped visiting me?"
He nodded, not taking his eyes off the screen.
"Can I ask why? Was it because I was too much of a pain in the ass?" I pressed softly as he didn't give a proper answer.
"No," he shook his head slightly, "I was in the hospital," he said nonchalantly as if it was a small matter.
"What?!" I exclaimed and paused the movie, "what happened?"
Yusuke turned slightly towards me, "I was hit by a car while chasing a criminal," he explained matter of factly, "I was injured pretty badly, and even was in the coma for a while."
I gaped at him with astonishment. One side of me was so unhappy for his accident while the other side was shamelessly happy as it wasn't my stupid tantrum or his unwillingness which kept him away from me.
"Are you okay now?" I asked, being afraid that he still suffered from after effects.
He smiled brightly, "I am fully recovered," he said reassuringly, patting his chest to decorate his statement.
"Oh, good then," I mumbled and played the movie again. I didn't understand why, but suddenly I felt shy, looking at his allusive smile.
Why did I sound like a concerned wife?
I shook my head, dismissing the ridiculous thought and continued to look at the screen although I couldn't focus on it anymore.

.. / .- -- / .... . .-. .
I was right, Yusuke was really repeating the same thing again and again with his forefinger.
I was sitting opposite of him on the dining table, playing with my phone while he was reading some documents related to work. After a while, I heard him tapping on the wooden surface of the table lightly with his fingertip. As I saw him doing that before, I started to watch him to see if there was really a pattern. Indeed there was!
"Yusuke," I broke his trance, "what is it?" I asked, pointing at his hand on the table.
He looked confused, so I repeated his tapping. Only then, he realized what he was doing and let out a chuckle, "sensei taught me that, it is a morse code."
"What does it mean?" I asked curiously.
"It means I am here," he explained while tapping the code accordingly, "it gives me kind of encouragement to deal with the case."
I nodded slowly in appreciation.
Yusuke was indeed special.
"It is a weird thing to do, I know," I said, rubbing his nape when I didn't reply verbally.
"No, it is super cool," I said immediately with a smile, "I will remember it."
"Will you?" he asked with disbelief reflected in his almond eyes.
"Yes" was my resolute answer. I didn't know why but having a secret code with Yusuke felt very satisfying.
"Okay," he gave me a warm smile which I returned.
