"A little bit more, please," Watanabe didn't let me off the hook easily, but he encouraged me with the gun in his hand.
I stole a furtive glance towards the metal door, "that bastard is still alive, right?"
Mio snorted, but Watanabe nodded, "as you wished, we raised the temperature to -10 again."
I nodded as there was nothing else I could do, "in 2018, my father committed suicide because of KCG, I hacked their system and revealed their crimes. It was going well, but then that officer arrested me," I told him the truth, ignoring the part that it was me who let the police arrest me.
"Your name, please?" Watanabe asked in a manner suitable for a receptionist. He was indeed a weird man.
"Tahara Kazuya."
Watanabe made a hand gesture and Keiji sat in front of one computer. A few seconds later, he said "he says the truth."
Watanabe nodded, satisfied, "then?"
"I was in prison for two years and I vowed revenge. When I was out, I kept tailing Yusuke to find a weak spot to attack. On the day of Ryo's arrest, I was again tailing him. I stole Ryo's phone to create a problem for Yusuke for losing evidence. However, when I saw the news, I understood Ryo was after KZK, not that silly girl, so I decided to keep the phone."
Tell me, wasn't I amazing? Love indeed makes us do weird things...
"Very smart of you," Watanabe clapped, "how did you find us?"
"Dark web, I spent a lot of time there," another lie and it only continued to accumulate, "I also sneak into the police system regularly, so I saw the video from there, then I searched Ryo's name and voila!"
"Impressive." Another compliment, it was good, right?
"Compared to me, Ryo is nothing," I said proudly when I felt that Watanabe believed me, "so, let me take his place, I don't even need these two," I pointed at Mio and Keiji and they fumed.
Watanabe raised a hand and shushed them effortlessly. "Can you really hack KZK?"
I nodded immediately and he approached me with a smile. My heartbeats were loud against my ribcage with the fear he would just snap my head, but luckily, he just pushed me until I fell onto an office work chair. Then the man who took me there came forward and chained my ankle to the table with a handcuff.
I couldn't help but see the second screen which was showing inside the freezer. My heart missed a skip, seeing Yusuke was lying on the cold floor in a fetal position and he wasn't moving at all. I kept looking at him without blinking and I saw he was looking at the camera intently. Bless his soul, he was still conscious.
"Show me," I heard Watanabe say as he put his hands on my shoulders, breaking my trance.
With a building anxiety on my chest, I plucked Koi to the computer and started with my show. As I already arranged everything with Nakamura-san, the moment I wrote the code which I let him know before, the IT guy would let me into the system. Like I planned, I idled around for a few minutes to deceive them, then I wrote the code and the IT guy really let me into the system.
"Woww! Look at this!" Watanabe exclaimed as he ruffled my hair, "change of plans, we are robbing KZK today! Good that today is Sunday!"
"But," Mio uttered and Watanabe looked at her with a bored expression.
"Here," he took the key of the handcuff and attached it to a keyring, which had already one key around it, and handed to her, "you have the full control here, when I come back, I will even let you kill the cop, happy?" he asked and seeing the dangerous glint in his eyes, Mio nodded reluctantly.
I threw him a questioning look and Watanabe blinked at me as if coaxing me. Wow, really disgusting.
"Don't try something funny, there will be two guys with guns in front of the door," Watanabe warned us before he left with the tall guy.
"I will kill you with my own hands," Mio snapped at me as soon as we were alone. I just laughed it off while Keiji took the other chair and put it next to me to keep an eye on me. Damn it!
We waited in a foreboding silence until Watanabe called me via the burner phone to start the show. My fingers ran on the keyboard and they were in. While dawdling, I wanted to send our location to the police, but Keiji wasn't that stupid to my dismay.
"What are you doing?" he asked with a grimace.
"It's a part of the door system of the vault," I lied, looking at him, but his focus was solely on the screen. Double damn it!
For a while, I wrote random codes and the doors kept opening in front of Watanabe. When they were on the ground floor, the second part of the plan started. I wrote the other code we decided on and the IT guy trapped Watanabe and his men inside the area.
Looking at the blinking red error notification, Keiji jumped on his feet, asking "what the hell is going on?!"
"Quick, take the USB out," I commanded with a fake worry and he complied immediately.
The moment he bent down, I grabbed the keyboard and hit him on the head. He fell down and Mio circled her arm around my neck, strangling me while yelling for the guys behind the door. I moved my head backwards and hit her chin and she let go of me. Then I kicked her with my free leg before she managed to rush to the door. Losing her balance, she hit her head on the table and fell next to Keiji, unconscious.
As my only concern was my lover, I didn't waste any time checking on them. I just got the keyring from Mio's pocket and saved my ankle, praying the guys behind the door wouldn't come in. Once free, I completed the code I half wrote to inform the police about our location, then I rushed to the metal door. With shaky fingers, I opened the heavy door and saw Yusuke was lying on the floor, his eyes closed.
I tried the other key on the lock and luckily it worked! I saved Yusuke's ankle from the chain before I gathered his frozen figure into my arms and rushed out of the freezer. I carefully put him on the floor and checked on him.
He wasn't breathing...
