I was having a nice dream when the doorbell woke me up. I heard Yusuke opened the door and welcomed the comers inside. Wondering who they were, I changed my pyjamas with some casual clothes, combed my hair and left the room.
"Kazuya, meet Nakamura-san and Mika-chan," Yusuke introduced the father and the daughter. He was around sixty with all his hair white while the girl didn't look more than twenty, especially with that blue dress.
"Nice to meet you," I bowed towards Nakamura-san, "I am Kazuya, Yusuke-san's... housemate."
"Nice to meet you, young man," Nakamura-san returned my greeting, "you should be wondering who we are and why we are here."
I nodded with a smile before I brought the chairs and placed them facing the sofa. Meanwhile Yusuke prepared some tea and when we were all seated, Nakamura-san took the word.
"Yusuke-san, we disturbed you early in the morning to say thank you for yesterday. Mika told me how brave you were and not even hesitated to cover her when that rascal dared to stab my daughter."
"It is my duty to protect the civilians," Yusuke said softly, not accepting the praise as usual.
Nakamura-san smiled at his remark, "you are a kind man and I want you to know that from today on, you two can always come to me when you have a problem," he said and reached a business card with both hands. I stood up immediately and received the card with a slight bow, then sat back.
"Eh," my eyes widened, reading the business card, "KZK Precious Metals Executive?"
Yusuke leaned towards me to see the card while Nakamura-san nodded humbly, contrasting with Mika-chan's enthusiasm.
"My father is so cool, right?!"
"Mika," Nakamura-san warned her, but I gave her a thumbs up. "Let us go now, but we hope to see you soon," he said politely as he stood up with Mika mimicking him.
We sent them off and cleaned around before sitting around the table to eat breakfast Yusuke bought earlier.
"So, who was that rascal that attacked Mika-chan?" I asked curiously.
Yusuke took a sip of his water and said "it was her 'boyfriend', he wanted to take her somewhere, but she didn't want to. They argued a bit and he tried to drag her into his car. Coincidentally, I saw them while waiting at a red light and rushed to the scene. When I said I was a police officer, he took out a knife and threatened to kill her. The rest as usual, we fought a bit and the knife ended up on me."
"How come you lost to a university student?" I asked angrily and put down my chopsticks, losing my appetite.
"It was because of Mika-chan," Yusuke explained with a low tone, "she wanted to help, but rather stirred up the trouble. I had no other choice than to cover her, otherwise she was sure to be stabbed."
"Aiya," I exclaimed, feeling a bit happier, "that's why Nakamura-san came all the way here with fruits in his hands."
Yusuke just shrugged and I dropped the topic so that we could discuss what to do for the day. As Yusuke was injured, he was given a day off, and as it rarely happened, it was too precious for me.
Soon, we forgot about Nakamura-san and the business card lay rejected among the other cards.
Who knew it though, that business card would play a crucial role soon to save Yusuke's life...
