Dr. Cullen spends enough time with the body to give a description of the victim and time of death before he's getting her into a body bag and onto a gurney.
While he's doing that, Jacob sends Mike over to talk to the owner of the restaurant and Jessica to talk to the patrons who'd dined in the restaurant earlier. Angela had shuffled out to transfer the images into the database at the station. So, that left him to watch the ME work. He was very quick with his movements, as if he had more pressing issues than this case. Though, the detective could see that he was interested enough, as he starts spouting off observations to his assistant.
"She died at around nine. Box-dyed brown hair and hazel eyes." Jacob watched as he tugged open her mouth with his gloved fingers, "Huh."
He was about to question the little sound until the doctor maneuvered her head to show that she'd bitten through her own tongue.
"That must've hurt like a bitch." He hears whispered over his shoulder. All three of them turn to see Eric standing directly behind Jacob, on his tip toes as he tries to get a better look.
"Do you need something?" Jacob snaps as the man continues to stare at the severed tongue instead of looking at him.
Eric seemed to snap out of whatever trance-like state he was in as he met Jacob's gaze. Then, he was stuttering as he tried to explain why he was there. He'd been put on desk duty for allowing Mike to talk him into hitting on a witness at a crime scene. He was lucky he wasn't filling out applications for a new job.
"Boss said you might need extra hands." He finally gets out as his eyes dart around the table to keep from looking directly at Jacob.
The doctor's eyes go back down to the girl as he instead focuses on determining her age and weight.
"Yeah, go talk to the staff; see if they saw anything." Jacob hisses his orders before turning back to hear what Cullen had to say. He was really going to have to have a talk with those two about personal space. Cullen's assistant, Jasper, Jacob thinks his name is, stares at him for a long moment. He can almost feel his stare like a red dot on his forehead. Then, he can feel as his eyes slowly find his boss.
The assistant is pale and quiet. He has big, hazel eyes and keeps his mouth pinched in a tight line. He's odd. Jacob ignores him.
"Early 20's, 120 Ibs." Cullen finally rattles off to no one in particular, not looking up from the body. "We should get her on a gurney. Jasper'll bring you the autopsy report."
It's like a dismissal. Jacob doesn't go anywhere.
Edward finally lifts his eyes again from where he's scribbling something down. He cocks an eyebrow and waits for an explanation. Jacob contemplates questioning whether he thinks Jacob works for him.
"Whatever is under the body is also evidence." Jacob informs him, opening up an evidence bag for emphasis.
Something flashes in his eyes, Jacob just catches it before he's calling for someone named Emmett to help Jasper load the body into the black body bag.
Emmett, Jacob learns, is a big, hulking mass of a man. He only talks at Jasper, who only gives a very stiff nod in return, as they quickly load the body up and zip the bag closed.
Jacob says nothing to either of them, but whenever he turns to scan what was left of the dinner, he can feel their eyes on his back. What was that about?
He doesn't wait around for the others, telling them to meet him back at the station when they're done questioning any potential witnesses. He slides into his car, taps his fingers on the steering wheel for a moment, and then pulls out the parking lot.
