a/n: i'll fix typos soon. promise. also chapter 26 will be a lot longer.

Edward's not normally nervous. If anything, he's usually the one making other people nervous. Though, he can't ignore how his heartbeat felt like it was more on par with the average human. He fixes Jacob's plate with stiff arms and ignores the way he can feel eyes piercing his back. He's done pretty good at keeping calm and casual, but he didn't think proposing would be this difficult. They'd pretty much reached most checkpoints in their relationship; he'd think this one would be a no-brainer despite the short time they'd been together. Jacob was having his kid, this all seemed too simple. Yet, here he was with Seth and Leah peering over at him as he turned to head for the stairs with a little tray of food.

He doesn't bother with banter, far too nervous to even feign being easygoing with anyone besides Jacob. He feels this faint urge to throw up that he hasn't experienced since he was seventeen the first time.

"Go get 'em, Slugger." He hears Seth call after him, before hearing him grumble after Leah smacks him over the back of his head.

Edward hands the tray over to Jacob and crawls into the space next to him, that feels so warm, there was no way Quil hadn't made his way up. The man was quite fast for someone who's in his third trimester. The man waddled around like he wasn't carrying an entire other human being.

Honestly, Edward was almost ecstatic at the fact that he'd made a visit. Jacob usually listened to him and, unless he has some kind of vendetta that Edward didn't know about, he assumes the talk would go in his favor.

He waits patiently, eyes casted toward the ceiling. He's not even sure how he'd handled nerves before, but decides to think about something else. He distracts himself with the thoughts of his grand plan to get Jacob on a plane. They'd use the private plane and make sure there was enough protection to get him their safely. Jasper could get them there. Once they get there, they'd have to make sure the island stayed secure.

He needs Jacob's entire family on that island.

They'd be his best bet at making sure the man stayed safe. They all played a role. They had the best access to him, they'd know where he was at all times, and most important, they'd know when there was danger long before Edward.

Plus, he doesn't know how he'll deal without them being them being there. If what Jacob has told him about Quil is anything to go by, being closed to the pack is essential during pregnancy.

Along with them, Edward didn't think it would hurt to bring a couple of others. If Quil went into labor and gave birth, Embry would be out of commission. That's two more people who'd also need protection. Emmett and Jasper could help with that, and he wouldn't be surprised if they showed up with Alice and Rosalie in tow. He'd have a bit more leniency because they didn't sleep and didn't have much to lose.

"What are you planning?" Jacob asks out of nowhere, speech a bit impeded by the sheer amount of mac n cheese that he'd managed to shove into his mouth.

"Uh, well, to grow old with you and three kids on a weirdly large plot of land." He riffs and watches Jacob wrinkles up his nose at the cheesy sentiment.

He was right, he should've shot for a higher number of children just in case Jacob tries to hold him to that later.

"No, what are you planning right now?" Jacob asks, rolling his eyes.

"How to get away with murder?" Edward responds and watches as Jacob bites into a chicken leg.

That's not entirely inaccurate, but that was like last week. Now he has a baby to protect.
