Titans POV
I pulled the door to Iris's room slowly shut until I heard the soft click of the lock. I turned around and came face to face with my mother. Her black hair was pulled up into a tight bun, and worry was sketched in the lines in her face.
"Did Dad tell you?" I asked, ashamed. Iris was weak and beaten, how did I let this happen. I would have to have a serious talk with my wolf later.
My mother pressed her lips together and nodded.
"I don't know what happened. One minute we were just kissing, the next my wolf had taken over and I couldn't help myself." My voice cracked as I confessed. I fought the lump forming in my throat. I would not let my mother see me cry. She wrapped her arms around my torso and pulled me into a hug. She was so much shorter than me, her head barely reached my chin.
"She's just so beautiful." I choked. She nodded and grabbed my hand, pulling away so she could look me in the eyes.
"Lets go get some lunch." She said quietly. "You've barely eaten since she arrived." She was right. At the mention of food my stomach rumbled angrily. I smiled weakly and followed her to the pack house kitchen.
After I had stuffed my face with fruit and meat, then washed it down with water, I bid my mother goodbye and returned to Iris's room.
I closed the door and crept over to her bed, standing over her. She was so beautiful when she slept, and when she was awake. She was curled up in the blanket, clutching her ribs. Behind the injuries, she was almost goddess like. Plump pink lips, orange-red hair, and light green eyes. But she was thin, too thin. Bruises and cuts decorated her pale skin, along with scabs, multiple deep gashes, and burns. There was a light scar on her left cheek bone. And her neck was dark and bruised, like she was constantly choked.
Her pack had deprived her of basic needs and had beaten her. She hasn't eaten since I saved her from them. I guess she's used to being hungry.
I couldn't stand looking at my mate in this condition. I clenched my fists and turned away. Why had this happened? If I had found her sooner, I could have saved her from this pain and suffering. Now she's here, because her pack was going to use her as a sacrifice to get us to help them. How sick.
Doctor Halliard was going to have to see her again tomorrow. This time when Iris was awake.
Deep in my thoughts, I heard a faint rasp at the door. It opened a crack and Darien's face appeared. "Hey buddy," He whisper-shouted. "You've been here for a couple days, and I wanted to know if you wanted to go grab some drinks at my house."
As much as I wanted to go out with my best friend and relax, I couldn't leave Iris alone for very long after what happened last time. She needed me. So, I shook my head. Darien's face fell and he looked down to the floor. I gave him a sympathetic look as he backed away.
"Ok, I'll see you later then." He muttered, then pulled the door closed. Leaving me alone with the most gorgeous girl in the world.
