Chapter 29

You were on your way to open your door with a piece of bread in your mouth; surprisingly, you heard a knock on your door. You opened the door not expecting a visitor so early in the morning.

"Hold on—" You said as you twisted the door knob opening the door. You were suddenly greeted by a pair of arms enveloping you into a hug.

"Levi" You mumbled almost not audible. "Hurry up were walking to school early." Levi said breaking off the hug. He took your hand. your fingers intertwining.

"Oi wait" You were caught off guard causing your heart to beat faster. "What?" Levi stopped walking turning his head to you.

He let go of your hand making you feel the warmth inside you disappear. "Sorry, I guess that made you uncomfortable." He placed his hands inside his pockets and continued walking.

"Oi! Don't walk away." You walked up to his side. "Leaving me alone right after you took me by hand and pulled me out of my house." You took his hand out of his pocket and held it tight. "Don't you dare do that again." You looked forward embarrassed to look at him.

Levi widened his eyes and quickly looked your way but unfortunately you were looking away. He chuckled and responded to your gesture by intertwining his fingers into yours. "I won't" Levi lowered his head and smiled.

"No" Levi crossed his arms and gave you a serious look.

"Come on, don't give me that look." You sighed and crossed your arms too.

"I'm serious."

"So am I." You furrowed your eyebrows.

"Fine." Levi sighs. His voice giving off a hint of annoyance, worry, and a little of anger.

"I know you're uncomfortable when i'm with him but i know him and trust me, he won't hurt me. I promise." You gave him a closed-eye smile reassuring him that you're nowhere near danger when you're with Jean. He is one of your best friends after all.

"I trust you"

You and Jean were already sitting at the bleachers. You watch as kids run around playing.

"So" You started. "What do you wanna talk about?" You smiled. Serious, that's how you would describe the atmosphere you were in right now.

"They look so carefree...if only time would go back and I didn't move away. Things would be the same and we would probably be together by now." Jean said making you think back about how carefree you were back then.

You sigh, "We can't turn back time, Jean. Change is uncontrollable, we change even without us knowing. And either way, if we stayed just like we were back then, I still wouldn't see you as you see me. These feelings..I can't control them." Jean had never heard you say so much before. Not these kind of words, at least.

"Y/N" Jean caught your attention.

"Yeah?"

"Have you ever hesitated?" Those words took you back.
