Context: my dad used to have a friend named Ron who was kinda unlucky in the relationship department. Almost every single girl he dated had gotten married to the guy they dated literally right after him.
"Poor guy"
"Yeah, I mean Ron wasn't a bad guy though."
"Maybe they just weren't ready then?"
"Or he wasn't ready for marriage."
"No, he always seemed like he was ready, he wanted it."

(Me muttering)"maybe he lowered their standards"
(My mom shocked laughing)
"What, what did she say?"
"I said maybe he lowered their standards."
(My dad also shocked laughing his head off) "DAMN!! THAT- GOSH"
"That- if you said that to his face, that'd be worse than a kick in the balls
