You were woken up by your ringtone. You ignored it at first but the phone rang again and you opened your eyes with a sigh, looking at your phone on the bedside table. You leaned over to see the caller ID and sat up at once when you saw Phil's picture. You picked up your phone and your heart sank when you saw that it was half-past five in the morning. You gulped before picking up.

"Hello?"

"You got engaged?" Phil spoke and he sounded exhausted.

You sighed with relief when you realized nothing was wrong. Ever since you had gotten a call from SHIELD all those years ago that Phil had gotten seriously injured on field, you'd always dreaded his untimely calls. "Yeah," You said. It had been a couple of days since Steve had released the statement and you had avoided pretty much everyone in the building and on your phone except Thor and Clint who hadn't made a big deal out of it which you were thankful for. "It kinda just happened," You said as memory clicked in. You had prepared what you'd say to Phil over and over in the past couple of days.

"Just happened?" Phil said, his voice slightly raised. "Are you out of your mind?"

"Look, it's not a  big deal. It-"

"Lios, no," Phil spoke before you could continue with your practised speech. You were glad that it wasn't a video call and just a regular call. "You met this guy, what, a month ago?" He said and his tone made you sick in your stomach. If Phil were to oppose this, you didn't know what Steve would do. He'd threatened you with Phil's job and though you were pretty sure he could get Phil kicked out if he wanted to, you didn't know if he still would. You didn't want to take any chances nonetheless. "Look, I know Steve and I know he's a good guy but isn't this going too fast? Are you even okay with this?"

"I know but it's not like I'm a kid anymore, dad," You said, knowing it'd calm him down if you called him dad. You felt bad for doing it but you didn't really think you had an option. "It just clicked, you know? It happened and I don't know. It just seems right."

Phil sighed and there was a  moment of silence as you only heard some keys and a door open and shut. "Why didn't you tell me? I heard it from a colleague and it's apparently all over the news." He said. "Did you give him permission to use your name?"

"I did," You said. "I didn't want to hide it."

"Lios, it's not like that. The whole world will want to know you more now, are you even sure you want that?"

"I'm not sure but I know I wouldn't have it any other way." You said and you could almost hear the distress in Phil's voice.

"Just don't do anything till I get there." He said and it broke your heart hearing his voice. He sounded low and stressed. You knew he already had a lot of pressure of his work and to top it with this seemed no less than torture. "You're not planning any wedding, are you?"

"What? No, dad." You wanted to add more but now you didn't think you could lie anymore. You were pretty sure Steve had made plans and the details of the wedding were probably down on paper in specifics.

You heard the clinking of glass and knew Phil was pouring a drink for himself. "This isn't why I sent you there, Lios." He said. "I don't want the-"

"We won't tell anyone about my powers. I've talked to Steve about this." You said even though you hadn't. "I'll just be a regular guy in the media."

Phil didn't say anything for a while and when he finally spoke up, he sounded a lot better. "Are you happy?"

"Of course," you replied.

"Good." He said. "Just... Just don't do anything stupid."

"I won't if you won't," You smiled, even though your nerves were on fire, and knew Phil was smiling too.
