As soon as you pushed the car door shut, you noticed Steve giving you a look but didn't say anything even though you knew he'd wanted to and definitely would as soon as you'd reach your room. You took the elevator to your room with him and went straight to the kitchen to get some water when Steve followed you, telling you to get ready for a meeting with Mark about the wedding.

"I'm not going," You said, taking a sip and leaning against the counter to look at him.

"I wasn't asking, you have to be there."

"And yet I'm not going, am I?" You sighed, drinking the rest as you put the glass away and walked towards the bathroom.

"Alright now, don't get an attitude just because you chose to fight with Phil." He mumbled, making you stop and turn to look at him.

"You want to say that a bit louder, bud?"

Steve scoffed and even though didn't reply, you could see your tone had bothered him and he was trying to control himself. "We both know you started it, Rogers, don't you dare put this on-"

"I did it?" Steve asked, laughing as if you'd almost told him a joke. "Honestly, do you ever think before you speak out loud? Jesus," He said and smirked when he saw you clench your jaw.

"Get out," You said, eyes fixed on his.

"This is my room as much as it's yours, Lios," Steve said, standing up straighter as he walked towards you, using the height difference to tower over you. "Either you learn to respect me or get comfortable with this."

"You think I'm scared of you?"

"Honestly?" Steve spoke, "You should be. You haven't even been on the field once but trust me, if you were, you'd-"

"Here we go again," You rolled your eyes and began to walk away when Steve grabbed your wrist, holding you close to him.

"Do not walk away when I'm talking," Steve growled. "I don't think I have to remind you I still hold Phil's pathetic job in my hands, Lios. Or what, did your little boyfriend fuck your sense out of you?"

"What the-"

"That's right," Steve grimaced. "I can get mean too. Hell, I'd rather be this all the time if it meant shutting you up like this." He said, letting go of your wrist.

"Finally," You said out loud dramatically, "There it is. The real Steve Rogers."

Steve walked out without another word and you walked over to the bed, sitting down with a sigh. You took a minute to gather yourself before getting up to change and leave for the meeting, having realized you'd probably missed enough and the more meetings you missed, the more agency you'd be giving to Steve and his team with the situation. By the time you had gotten to the conference room, you saw that everything had already begun. Steve stood up to give you his chair while he got another for himself, acting almost as if you two hadn't argued at all.

"Mark is suggesting that we have a secret wedding," Steve said as he sat down next to you.

"Well, it's kind of in vogue," Mark said, visibly bothered at having to repeat himself. "Moreover, I really doubt we'd be able to pull off an entire wedding this early. There would be way too many moving parts."

"What about the secret one then? What will we do in that?" You asked.

"Just a small ceremony somewhere with the team and a couple other people," Mark replied. "Just for the pictures, of course."

You sighed and nodded, "It does sound better than the whole thing," You said, turning to Steve and figured by his reaction that he hadn't been on board with it.

But Steve nodded with you nonetheless, "If you say so." He said.

"Alright, great," Mark said, grabbing his bag from the table and pulling out a file. "And the prenup would-"

"Mark," Steve said with a warning look.

Mark looked at him but put the file in front of him anyway and gave you another copy, "Just take a look. Considering the wide gap in assets should things go-"

"I'm not signing one," Steve said, pushing the file back to him. "Lios can read his if he wants but I've already told you this before."

You looked at the document with raised brows, not having even thought of it before. Mark was clearly right, you barely had a dime to your name while Steve was clearly extremely well paid by his engagements with the media let alone his work at SHIELD. Mark sighed and took the document back as you gave him yours as well. The meeting still went on for another hour but most of it was just Mark talking and Steve correcting him from time to time but at the end of it, they'd decided the ceremony date and who all were going to be invited. You put in some blank spaces if Phil wanted to invite someone but you chose to not invite anyone from your own friend list since most of them from school had only begun talking to you since the whole Captain America fiasco.

"You sure you don't want to invite anyone?" Steve asked just as you knew he would the moment you stepped out of the room while Mark and his team stayed back to work out the details of everything.

"I've put in Phil's name," You said, looking at him as you got in the elevator. "Besides, I'm not sure even he'd want to come now."

"Don't say that, of course he'll come," he said and his gentle tone made you look at him with a raised brow. "I'll talk to him." He told you but you didn't reply, knowing Steve won't have any real conversation until you two were in the privacy of your penthouse anyway.

He followed you into the room as you picked up the book you'd been reading and sat down on the couch while he stood there, his hands at his hips as he awkwardly looked at you. "I uh, have to go to HQ for an hour or so."

"Okay?" you looked up at him.

"Would you want to go somewhere for dinner later?"

"Maybe,"

"You're really going to make me say it, huh?" Steve sighed and shook his head, sitting down next to you. He took your book and looked at the cover. "I'm sorry, I did kind of mess things up with Phil. I guess I was mad about the whole..." He took a deep breath and sighed. "I'm still mad about it and I just couldn't think clearly."

"Do you ever?" You asked, making him chuckle. "For what it's worth, yes I did kiss someone but I'm not sure if it even meant anything. I didn't start it," you said but he just shook his head.

"It's okay, you don't have to explain anything," he said.

"There's nothing to explain, Steve. And what happened this morning, I guess we were both mad and confused at the same time. Can't we just leave it at that?"

He looked at you with a sad smile and somehow you knew what he was going to say before he had said it, "We love to fight, don't we?"

"It kinda is satisfying to see you get mad," You smiled in return. "We've got to be the most fucked up couple to ever get married."

Steve laughed, "I can confidently say there are worse couples out there." he said, standing up. "Dinner at six then?"

"Can we just get takeout and eat in the car or something instead?"

Steve smiled, "Not in the car, I know a place."
