You wrinkled your nose in disgust as the smell of all the disgusting foods and drinks around the table hit you.
You should've known that this was going to happen. Tonight, you're appearing on James Cordon's show. The interview had gone perfectly. He stuck to questions about your upcoming film, although you could tell there was one he was dying to ask.
It's the same one people have been asking you all week.
Are you dating Selena Gomez?
You've been hanging out so much lately. Cameras have been following the both of you around in hopes of catching a glimpse of an intimate moment.
But see, you're both smarter than them. You've both been doing what you do for a long while and you know how these things go.
So you're protecting your relationship at all costs, even if it means fighting urges to steal kisses and hold hands like the other couples you see.
Of course, James is different. He's got a way of getting people to spill the beans. He's got a game to play with people in hopes of getting them to spill some secrets.
And here you are. In that chair, across from him and in front of all those disgusting things. From fish eyes to clam juice to bugs and really old eggs. It's all so disgusting.
But you're determined to try to swallow it all down, hoping to keep your relationship under wraps and private like it is now.
"Hello, y/n." He smiled, laughing over the look of disgust on your face. "Are you ready to play a game? What do you think about all the interesting foods around you?"
"Horrid." You quickly said. "Everything looks so gross. I'm not looking forward to this."
"I mean, as long as you don't have anything too personal to hide then it should be easy to play."
The crowd made some sounds causing you to shake your head with a smile.
"What should we start you off with?" He asked himself, spinning it all around until he landed on the clam juice.
Yes. It was awfully gross. It looked terrible and you're sure it won't taste good, either. But you could handle it. You'd swallow that down no problem.
"Okay, y/n," he said, picking up a card from the table. "Who is the last person you stalked on Instagram?"
Of course, it's your girlfriend. She's been posting a lot lately and you can't help but stare at her photos and wonder how you got so lucky.
But you couldn't say that. So you simply answered,
"Uh, Taylor Swift. She's got a lot of music out these days, you know? I'm always wondering if she's dropped hints and Easter eggs."
James looked as if he didn't believe you. But he couldn't push you any further. So he dropped it and laughed as you spun it around for him, giving him the old egg.
You asked him a tough question about who his least favorite person in his late-night band was, only for him to eat it.
And then, it was back to you again.
To your relief, you only got some hot sauce and the question was simply about the worst person you've ever worked with. Because you respect the people you've worked with, despite some night having respect for you, you drank some of the sauce and continued.
But deep down, you knew it was only a matter of time until he asked about Selena.
And it was on the next question that it happened.
And you knew it was gonna be impossible to answer when he stopped on the bugs.
"Oh," he laughed as he picked up the card.
"Y/N. There's been a lot of rumors about you and Selena Gomez. Yeah, you've been spotted out together, close sources and friends say you're dating and have been kissing quite a lot. So, I have to ask, are the rumors true? Are you dating?"You chuckled and nervously bit your lip.
"Um," you debated, staring at the bug in front of you. Your stomach turned at the thought.
You couldn't do it. You'd throw up everywhere.
"I'm sorry, Sel," you said, looking into the camera before looking back at James. "Yeah, I can't eat this. So, I guess I have to spill. The rumors... are true. We've been together for about five months now."
The crowd cheered and James looked enthusiastic about getting the ultimate scoop.
You, however, couldn't wait for the interview to end. All you could think about was what Selena might be thinking.
She was waiting for you backstage. No one knew except you. So it wasn't a long wait to run into her arms and tell her repeatedly how truly sorry you were.
"I'm sorry." You sighed, clinging to her tightly. "I feel so awful. But I couldn't eat it. I couldn't."
"Shh." She hushed softly as she gently rubbed your back. "I understand. It was only a matter of time until someone found out. I mean, I'd love to have a private relationship. But our lives aren't like that. I'm not mad about it. I'm happy for the world to know that I'm all yours and you're all mine."
You smiled as she leaned in for a kiss, lovingly brushing her lips against yours.
"I love you." She said as she gently pushed your head back on her chest. "Whatever happens, you know I've always got you."
"I know, Selena. I've got you, too. I love you lots." You said and then stayed in her arms for a moment of comfortable silence.
Who knows what the future holds now. You're sure the world is going to have fun theorizing your relationship and spreading it around like wildfire.
But through it all, you know you're safe with Selena.
Nothing can tear you apart.
