Summer Flashback

"Are you sure you're going to be okay," Spencer asked for the second time that night. "I can stay behind."

"You kiddin'? You haven't seen Coop all summer. Why would you stay behind for me," Olivia gasped, completing the last edit on her podcast. "I have stuff to catch up on anyway."

"You'll be lonely without me. We have shows to catch up on," Spencer joked, though he was trying his best to convince Olivia to come. The truth was that he'd miss her. They had been spending the entire summer together and he didn't want to end it without her.

"Don't flatter yourself. You guys won't be gone that long," Olivia added, rolling her eyes playfully. "Besides, you're trying to get your girl back. Unless you need my help?"

"I don't need your help, matchmaker. Who said I was trying to get back with Layla, anyway," he questioned, falling back on Olivia's bed while she remained at her desk.

"Seems like you two miss each other."

Spencer sighed, "We talked a handful of times, Liv. That doesn't mean we're on good enough terms to get back together. We just cool."

"Doesn't seem like Layla is thinking you two are just cool. Trust me, I know my bestfriend," Olivia suggested, closing her laptop and turning to face Spencer.

"She hasn't given me any signs and you know I'm great at reading minds so-" Spencer began, his eyes finding Olivia's as she joined him on the bed. He attempted to read Olivia's mind that seemed to be off-limits to the world. She kept so much of herself hidden to please others and even with him, she didn't give her all. Truthfully, how close they had gotten over the last few months scared her. Feelings she thought she could bury for Spencer were still there and had only gotten stronger. Pushing him to Layla was the only way to keep herself from acting on them.

"What's on your mind," Spencer asked, his palm accidentally bumping Olivia's bare thigh. The heated tension made them both clear their throats.

"Can't believe we're about to be Seniors and I don't even know what I want to do with my life," Olivia said.

"You'll get there. We have a whole year to figure all of that out. If football doesn't work out for me, I don't have a plan B. At least not yet," Spencer explained, staring at the ceiling.

"You're making it to the NFL, Spencer. And I'll be there in the stadium embarrassing you, screaming my head off.  Promise me one thing though? We'll always be friends, no matter what."

Spencer smiled, "You got me...no matter what."
