Another flash forward
The news about Grandpa Willie's health hit the Baker family hard. Billy had learned his father had cancer and refused to do treatments. GW was at peace with his illness and was wanting to make peace with his son before he left earth. Even with the family's pleas and offers to pay for treatment, GW turned them down. His final wish was to spend time getting to know his grandchildren and repairing his relationship with his son. Laura thought it would be a good idea to move Billy into the Baker's home to fulfill his wish. She was willing to put their differences aside to make Willie's last days comfortable. In the past, he would have refused but he took her up on that offer and moved in with them, which meant Billy spent more time at their house instead of his condo.
Every Sunday, the Baker's had dinner together and GW made his famous ribs. It had been heartwarming seeing Billy and GW bond over their love for BBQ. Even with the bickering, the love was beginning to show. They had a better understanding of each other and Billy's memory issues that had been caused by trauma in his childhood. Though they still had a ways to go in mending their relationship, they were actively working towards it.
Spencer and Olivia were in her room waiting to be called down to dinner. They had finally made things official and were navigating the shift from best friends to a romantic relationship.
"Have you told my dad yet," Olivia asked, tossing a throw pillow at Spencer's back.
"Do you think I would be up here if I told your dad about us," he replied, throwing the pillow behind him.
"Awww, you afraid? My dad likes you, he won't give you the whole 'if you hurt my daughter' threat," she teased, crawling over to him.
"I may see a side of him I've never seen. Are you crazy," Spencer laughed, grabbing the bottom of Olivia's shirt and pulling her towards him. "Besides, I think I like sneaking around."
"Of course you do," Olivia smirked, kissing him deeply before they were interrupted by Laura's voice from downstairs. "Better get down there before Jordan takes all the ribs."
The couple rushed down the steps so no one would get suspicious. On their way to the table, Jordon got Spencer's attention, pointing to his mouth and the lipstick smudge.
"Good looking out," Spencer mouthed back, sitting between Olivia and Simone.
Simone tapped Olivia's thigh and pointed to her neck. "Girl, you're exposed," she whispered, trying to contain her laugh. It was clear Spencer and Olivia had been busy over the past couple of weeks.
"Oh my God," Olivia gasped, pulling her hair over her shoulder to cover the bruised skin on her neck. "Thanks."
"You're welcome," Simone smiled, sharing a moment with Jordan who was sitting across the table. They shook their heads at the new love birds.
The dining room was full of laughter and jokes when dinner was served. Grandpa Willie told them stories of his childhood and when he was a teen getting into trouble.
"I knew I wanted to marry that woman when she threw that dryer at my head. She was a feisty one but I loved her," Willie cackled.
"A blow dryer," Jordan raised a brow, doubling over in his seat. "What did you do to make her mad, Grandpa?"
"Told her I loved her," he answered, tipping his hat.
"I would have loved to meet her," Olivia added, imagining what it would have been like to know her father's mother.
"You're a lot like her. Boy, when that woman was passionate about something, she went all in. You two would have been two peas in a pod," Willie explained, reminiscing on his late wife and the love they shared.
"Mama was a wonderful woman. I miss that sweet lady," Billy added sadly as Laura squeezed his shoulder.
"Yeah she was a beauty," Willie sighed. "Speaking of love and marriage, what's going on with you two." The elder pointed across the table to Spencer and Olivia who both choked on their water. "Don't act like nothing is happening, I wasn't born yesterday. I know love when I see it."
"Um," Olivia began, looking around the table at the curious faces staring back at her. Jordan and Simone hid their faces behind their napkins.
"We were going to tell everyone when the time was right," Spencer said.
"Tell us what," Laura quizzed.
"We're kinda...well we're dating," Olivia admitted, looking at her father.
"Oh. I thought you were about to say you got married in Vegas too. That's great honey," Laura grinned in relief.
"Well Spence, looks like we have to have that talk," Billy wiped his hands on his napkin and Olivia groaned.
