Jocasta and Berdina made it to the mansion. Berdina told her which she had been doubting but didn't dare to look back, that that guy was Britain. Berdina said that Britain was a gentleman, the one she appreciated most among those country leaders besides German Empire. However, as Jocasta had learned from history, she had to be cautious of what was going on in that calm and mysterious mind.
"What happened?"
Berdina asked worriedly."Nothing. I was just too nervous...I'm sorry".
Jocasta lied.
"You're right about leaving that place, young girl". - Berdina said, felt relieved because it was clear that Britain hadn't noticed this strange girl yet. - "Now, go change, I will make lunch for us".
German Empire didn't come home at lunch. He sent his message through a soldier that he would be at home late. Jocasta joined Berdina in making dinner. Other days, she just helped with the cleaning and laundry, but tonight, she thought she would cook something, hoping it would make German Empire release stress. With the guidance of Berdina, Jocasta successfully cooked Eintopf, German's favorite food.
German Empire came home at midnight. Through the windows in her room, Jocasta could see his tired face. Berdina told her to prepare dinner, when she went to check on him.
"Please Berdina, I'm too tired for eating..."
She heard him sighed when she stood in front of the door.
"How many times do I have to tell you that your health does matter, you dumb workaholic?" - Berdina said. - "I know you haven't eaten anything today. No protests".
German Empire was about to say some protests but Berdina was faster to cut him off by calling Jocasta.
"Jocasta, help me bring him dinner, please young girl".
Jocasta couldn't help but feel awkward. She knew that German Empire didn't expect to see her walking in his room at this time.
"Now, eat. Jocasta put her effort into cooking your favorite Eintopf".
Berdina said before leaving the room quickly and closed the door.
"Enjoy your dinner. I think I should leave for you to rest".Jocasta forced a smile. Before she reached the door, German Empire suddenly stood up, held her hands.
"I...If you don't mind, I want you to join me with dinner". - German Empire realized his action. He let go of her hand. He had never been this nervous. - "Or if you're sleepy..."
"No, I'd like to".
Jocasta replied.
"Thanks for making Eintopf for me".
German Empire smiled. It was rare to see him smile that happily.
"No problem. I just wanna be helpful". - Jocasta felt as if she had touched his soft side. - "This is my first time cooking it, I hope it suits your taste".
Jocasta had already had dinner, so most of the time, she entertained German Empire with small talks. She could assure that if it hadn't been for Berdina forcing him to eat, he would have fainted due to his hunger.
"Do you want to know what happened at the meeting today?"
German Empire asked when he had finished eating.
"May I? Is it a political secret?"
German Empire drank a glass of water. He choked quietly seeing Jocasta tried to hide her curiosity.
"It is, but I can tell you some good and harmless news. You need to know it anyway". - German Empire said. - "Britain informed us that he came out with a flexible plan. First, we need to guard this place as much as we can. Then, we can gain our initiative to fight back. It is a risky plan, based on the inferiority between the number of our troops and the Boxer's troops. We have discussed it for a whole day. I had gone against it until I was convinced by Britain. That guy does have a way with words".
