(Chapter fourteen: The Note)
I'd just finished showering and getting dressed when I found it. Jordan and Nick had gone to see a movie together, Mike was off being Mike, and Jay had left early for the dance studio. I was yawning and humming snippets of songs while wandering around tidying up the room.
I lifted up one of Jay's hoodies to throw it to his side of the room, and a piece of crumpled notepaper tumbled out of the pocket. Now, I usually wouldn't creep on someone's random note, but I saw something on it that shocked me, and I simply couldn't resist. Written in a poem-like form, the note read:
She's just like candy
She's oh so sweet
Red hair like licorice
Lips look good enough to eat
I sucked in a breath. Red hair? Was it me? It couldn't be... But it had to be! Who else had red hair 'like licorice'? My mind felt like it was gonna explode. Did Jay... Like me? Like, like-like me? Ugh! I was so confused, and I'll admit I was happy, but so completely confused.
I threw the note under Mike and Jay's bed, and sunk to the floor. What was happening? I needed Jordan more than ever, but she was out of reach. I kinda felt like I was gonna throw up.
I decided that the best thing to do would be to go out for a bit and get my mind off of it. I walked down the street towards Dottie's. There, I lost myself in fashion talk and pretended I never saw a note depicting my lips as 'good enough to eat'.
When I left the store with a few new pairs of jeans, I couldn't help but wonder, would I mind if he kissed me? I decided to be honest with myself. No, I wouldn't mind at all.
