I Failed You

A/N- Because I'm in a good writing mood (and I love y'all so much) I decided to hook you up with another chapter today. I hope you enjoy, darlings!

Consciousness returned to you slowly, flowing like a river blocked by stones.

When your eyes finally opened again, and your hearing and senses returned, you could hear a fire crackling, feel warmth penetrating through your cold body, and smell a soup being made nearby. You also heard soft sobbing noises, which concerned you.

"Is someone hurt? Are you okay?" you called out. Your voice was weak, and you hoped it reached the mourning person.

A cheerful young woman, wearing a white pleated dress and her blond hair up in pigtails, with a hydro vision strapped to her waist, rushed to your bedside and held a spoon filled with good-looking soup up to your lips. You swallowed it, and your taste buds proceeded to rejoice.

The mix of flavors hit pretty heavy in the beginning, and they seemed separate, not part of a whole dish but rather a bunch of ingredients mixed together. But that quickly changed, and the flavors melted together into a warm, flavorful party in your mouth.

"It's so good!" you exclaimed, and the young woman smiled gently in acceptance of the praise. "What is it called?"

"Bamboo shoot soup. It's a Liyue delicacy. Thankfully, some of our friends from Liyue shared it with me, and now I can make it. I'm Barbara, a sister of the Mondstadt church, by the way. May Barbatos' blessings be with you!"

"A pleasure to meet you, Barbara! I'm Y/N. Did you take care of me when I was unconscious?" you asked.

Barbara nodded her head emphatically, so that her pigtails bounced.

"Yup, that would be me! My singing heals wounds... oh, and I also used some bandages and antiseptic ointments! Evidently, you're feeling better. That's great! Your friends are outside waiting for you. One of them isn't doing too great, though. I think he thinks you're dead, to be honest. Poor boy. He just won't stop crying and blaming himself."

Immediately, you knew that she was talking about Razor. Desire filled you, desire to take him and hold him in your arms, comfort him with soft words and gentle strokes. But when you tried to stand up, your legs crumpled beneath you, and you fell to the hard ground, crying out in pain.

Your cry was heard by Kaeya and Lisa, who ran in to check on you. When they saw you lying on the ground, they both reached out a hand to help you up. You took one of each of the offered hands, and boosted yourself up with all the strength you had in your weak legs.

You swayed, and your body threatened to fall again, but Kaeya wrapped his strong arms around you, straightening you, and not letting go until your equilibrium fixed itself, your momentary nausea and dizziness settled, and your legs regained strength. Then, slowly, and softly, he let you go, and you stood up without support.

"You're conscious again! Praise be! Barbara truly works miracles!" Lisa exclaimed, throwing her arms around you and hugging you, an action uncharacteristic of her.

Barbara blushed and murmured, "Not miracles. Just normal healing."

Kaeya gave the sister a kiss on the cheek, then said, "Y/N, can you help us with Razor? He's falling apart, the poor boy. He thought you were dead- still thinks that way, actually- and he won't believe us when we say you're alive. He blames himself for getting lost. He says that, if he had simply stayed by your side, you wouldn't be hurt like this. The poor boy is hurting, and there's nothing we can do."

For the first time, you sensed emotion and empathy inside of Kaeya. This was odd- but then again everything right now was odd, so you didn't put too much stock into another thing being odd. You could say that odd was the new normal.

"The poor darling," you cried out. "I'll go to him. Where is he?"

"Outside the cave. He's probably sleeping right now. Lisa gave him a sleeping potion, because he hasn't rested in a while," Kaeya said.

"We'll stay in here," Lisa said, giving you a wink that clearly said what she expected you to do with Razor. "You two lovebirds can do your lovebird things."

As you headed to the cave's entrance, you heard Kaeya and Lisa saying, in unison:

"We're so glad you're conscious. We missed seeing you."

You turned around and gave them a warm smile before going outside of the cave to comfort Razor.

After being inside the shaded, dark cave, the light of the sun hit your eyes like a power laser. You squinted for a long while, until your eyes finally became accustomed to the light. When they did, you spotted Razor lying down on the ground, underneath the shade of a tree. You panicked for a second, thinking he was hurt, but then you got closer to him and noticed that he was just sleeping. But he was talking in his sleep as well... saying some weird things.

You knelt down by his side and stayed there on one knee for a while, just listening to what he was whispering.

"Lupical... my... lupical is... gone. I... failed..."

You dared to touch his cheek, run your fingers over his skin. He reacted to your touch, but his eyes didn't open.

"She's... here... in my dreams..."

"Yes," you whispered against your better judgement, "I'm just a dream. A beautiful dream. Don't wake up."

"Y/N?"

"Yes," you cooed softly, giving him soft, gentle kisses on his lips, his cheeks, his forehead, his hands, behind his ears, everywhere.

"Y/N.... I failed you... my lupical-"

He started to sob, and his steadily rising chest started to rise sporadically as he choked on his tears, gasping for breath. Hearing him struggle to even breathe, you too began to cry, until you were also sobbing and gasping for your breath. Your chest began to hurt, and you fell down onto your back underneath the tree, holding tightly onto Razor's hands, trying to stay conscious.

"It hurts," you gasped. "Razor... grief hurts."

Hearing your voice in pain, Razor's eyes shot open, and he looked directly at you. When he saw that you were conscious, but in pain, he snarled angrily and snapped, "I'll kill... whoever... hurt you!"

You opened your eyes again, and met his beautiful red ones. Your grip on his hands loosened, and you whispered, "I love you," as you felt your consciousness leaving you.

"No! Stay... with me... stay!" he cried out. "Stay! My lupical!"

You heard a beautiful, soft voice singing, and then your consciousness that was on the brink of extinguishing blazed up like a flame lit by strong coal. That voice... it was so beautiful. So alluring.

"Y/n... stay," Razor was whispering into your ear.

You looked directly into his beautiful eyes once more, his eyes that were misted with tears, and promised something that you would never take back.

"I'll never leave you, my precious one. I'll stay with you until the end."
