For the next two days, you trained with Sapnap and occasionally George or Punz, who would join your training sessions sporadically. You and Sapnap grew to know each other well.
It was like you were put on a raft in the middle of a sea during a storm in high tide. You were sick, constantly bouncing around and being thrown on the ride of your life, nearly drowning at some points. And Sapnap was like an island in the middle of the see you crashed into, keeping you safe from the growing storm.
On the last night before the battle was to begin, you were awoken by a small shake on your shoulder. You blinked your eyes open, still surrounded by darkness, but with a presence on your shoulder.
"Y/n, I have a surprise for you." Sapnap said. You recognized his voice.
"How late it is?" You asked. You didn't want to get out of bed, convinced by the comfort and solidarity alone to stay snuggled underneath the covers and hide from the world forever.
"It's actually early." Sapnap said, proud of himself for waking up before the sun rose to prepare his plan. "Now c'mon, we'll miss it."
You were confused, but went along with it. Sapnap seemed excited for whatever he had planned. He wore an ear to ear grin as he giddily led you outside of the base, breaking a few blocks to reveal a door, and breaking more after that.
It was the first time you had been outside since you were brought into the base. You were grateful for the fresh air, inhaling it like it was a drug. You smiling at the sounds of awakening wildlife.
Sapnap dragged you up a hill, and pushed you onto a red and white checkered carpet. You stumbled onto it, laughing as you caught yourself.
"Sapnap!" You exclaimed, giggling. "Why are we up here?"
"Well, uh, I have berries, and I figured we would watch the sunrise before... Y'know." He explained, sitting down next to you. He dropped a bag of wild berries in front of your lap. You grinned.
"My favorite." You said. The wind picked up, the breeze dancing around you. You shivered, rubbing your hands on your shoulders, hoping friction would do it's work. You had abandoned your hoodie two days ago, opting for a more flexible tank top to train in.
Sapnap must have noticed, because while you were digging through the berries, you felt him throw something at you. It was his hoodie.
"Huh?" You exclaimed, confused.
"Put it on, you're cold." He said. His smile refused to leave his face, it almost annoyed you, if it wasn't so cute.
You looked at his arms. They were pure muscle, and covered in scars. You blushed, quickly throwing on the hoodie to avert your gaze.
"Thanks." You said. You leaned on him, resting your head on his neck. He wrapped his arm around you.
You both silently watched the sky change color, starting with dark blue tones, then purple, then a deep, scarlet red, until it became a mixture of pinks and yellows. It was beautiful. You felt so at peace, so calm compared to the chaos you had been experiencing in these past days. You were sat overlooking a forest, so you saw all of the forest creatures waking up with you, foxes and sheep running through the wooded area.
"Y/n, I..." Sapnap said. You turned to him as he paused. He looked nervous, keeping his gaze to the ground. You ruffled his hair.
"What's up, dumbass?" You asked. He looked at you with heavy eyes and a small smile.
"I'm-"
"What are you two doing!"
You both whipped your head around, seeing Dream at the bottom of the hill. Even behind the mask, you could sense his rage.
"We strike at dawn, remember!? This isn't the time for your romantic- whatever! Get ready!" Dream yelled.
You both frantically ran down the hill, your peace ruined. You ran to the armory, both equipping what you had been training with the past days. George was in there too, putting final enchantments on his armor.
You looked at Sapnap. "Good luck, Sapnap." You said. Your heart dropped. This was it. The end.
"I'll be right by your side, y/n. And, call me Nick." He said. Your eyes widened, and you nodded.
There were two possible outcomes to this. Either you die, or you make it out alive, and then probably get killed by Dream.
At least your last decent moments were spent with Nick. It was about to be the hardest losing battle of your life, and then, you would be dead.
Might as well make it count.
Right?
