The group ventured to where you were told L'Manburg was, sans Eret, as he was with the other side, secretly plotting against the country. You prayed he was a talented actor and an inconspicuous spy. You had never met the man, only hearing retellings of his appearances.
You had made it to the wall that truly began such war. It was grand and made of blackstone, a truly beautiful fixture that you couldn't bring yourself to despise, seeing the effort and originality put into it.
"Go up the left wall and snipe, Sapnap." Dream instructed. "Bring y/n with you."
Sapnap nodded, grabbing your arm and running to the wall. He began building up to the structure, dropping down some blocks for you to do the same. You couldn't go as fast as he did, and by the time you were up with him he had already shot his first arrow. You gaped in awe.
The land was nothing more than a caravan with a flaming hot dog on top. This was barely a land, just a humble home. How could it pose a threat? You heard children giggling from inside the van. What the hell kind of attack was this meant to be? Was the world of those who had gone from the villages so... Terrible?
A tall man walked out of the van, adorning no armor, only a mischievous grin.
"Gentlemen!" He yelled. "How are you today?!" He sounded happy, but you could see through the act. His eyes carried a cunning burden, one you were all to familiar with in your own time.
Dream had climbed up on the other side of the wall. He yelled in response to the man, who you assumed to be the leader of the country.
"Good!"
The man smiled, looking back to his people in the caravan with a smug grin. "Do you like the view of our nation?!" He asked, turning back to his army.
Dream let out a cynical laugh. "I thought this was a trailer park."
"Very funny. Listen." The man said quickly. Laughs could be heard behind him after he shut down Dream's dry attempt at an insult. A small smile appeared on your face despite your attempt to suppress it. "We will meet you on the field, but on our own terms."
"YEAH!" A yell could be heard behind him. You would have laughed, it not for the serious occasion. You envied them. They took the war seriously, but it wasn't such a burden to them, it was an adventure, and place of wonder for the children you had heard so much slander of. What had they done wrong, except follow a man with charisma?
They were soon going to lose everything.
"Where do we meet?" The man asked, stepping out of the van.
You watched as George shot into the van, hitting one of the children square in the chest. Your jaw dropped, along with all civility. The war had begun, the first shot fired by a previously kind man.
From there, the fighting began. You helped Sapnap shoot as much as you could, and he defended every arrow that came your way with a cracked shield.
They started to get a lead on you, chasing the group throughout the map. You got grazed in the leg by an arrow, shot by a man they called Fundy. He cheered when he fired the shot. You eventually grouped back up with Dream and George, and made it back to the walls of L'Manburg, for a meeting. You saw Sapnap again at the top of the wall, watching you with a hawks eye.
"Surrender, Wilbur. Or else I'll place this TNT." Dream said. He held a carefully crafted bomb in his hands.
The man, Wilbur, looked at his comrades with laughter. "Go ahead Dream. Place your one piece of TNT. It would do wonders for our nation."
You looked at Dream, confused on what a small explosive could do against the nation except leave a small hole, but the confidence behind his mask warned you of larger plans.
You looked at one of the teenagers. A brunette boy, standing next to the blonde. He looked scared. You could see it in his eyes. They held the same burden you did. But he stood with pride for his cause, while you carried no pride, only obligation.
You nodded at him when your eyes met, and he nodded back. Maybe he could see the fear in your eyes, or the respect, that his counterparts could not. They were blinded by the thought of an enemy.
You watched Dream place the explosive in the boundary of L'Manburg with a sickening laugh. Something felt off. He had planned something. Would this kill the boy in the back, the children who stood for their cause? The ones who were just like you in ways that you wished not to delve into.
You stepped forward, attempting to enact change. "Wait, Dream-"
It was to late.
You felt yourself blast into the air, weight leaving you for a sour second. Your ears filled with ringing and bangs getting further and further away, as well as screams from L'Manburg's warriors.
The second you fell onto the ground, you knew it was over. The pain passed through you in waves, and you could barely move, the world fuzzy. You could feel yourself bleeding, and you could hear your heart slowing. This was the end you had known you would meet.
"Y/N!"
You forced your eyes open at the familiar call of your name. It was Nick. He jumped down from his point on the wall and scooped you up from the battlefield, holding you carefully in his arms.
"Y/n." He stuttered. Tears fell from his eyes. You softly smiled, bringing a shaking arm to his face, even though you could barely feel it. You brushed his hair back.
"Nick." You said.
"Y/n, I... I'm sorry. I told you I would- and now... I-I love you."
You felt shocked, but then smiled as your energy dwindled further.
"I love you too, Nick." You said.
His jaw fell open, and a look of shock and hesitation struck his face, before he leaned down and kissed you.
Your heart jumped, and your breath hitched, stuck in your throat. You closed your eyes.
And then, there was nothing. Just the feeling of Nick's lips on yours, fading with your existence.
Sapnap let out a scream that was louder than any explosions. He felt your body ran cold, and saw your eyes shut.
"Y/n, wake up! Wake up!" He screamed. "Please!"
He sat the corpse on the ground and tried to do chest compressions, but he knew the tragic reality.
"You had survived, you had made it! I couldn't get there in time. I told you! I failed you. C'mon, c'mon, please!"
George pulled him away from the dead body, tears in his eyes. "They're dead, Sapnap."
Tears fell from Sapnap's eyes, pouring like rain. The entire battle seemed to stop, the only thing moving was the wind. Nature could sense the loss that took place, and a flower petal blew onto Y/n and landed on their nose.
Sapnap and George mourned, until they were blinded by rage and grief. You had reached your end, your life however short. But your ending was kind.
Everyone dies, but not everyone really lives. Imagine if you hadn't left that village, and died years later with no one really caring about you and dirt thrown on your face haphazardly. At least you left something behind, a legacy of legends that you hoped Sapnap would share.
