Apparently, lying to Erwin Smith is not a great idea.

Because now? I'm sitting in a cold, dim cell beneath Survey Corps HQ, being interrogated by none other than Erwin and Mike.

"Just tell me how you know my name," Erwin says for what feels like the hundredth time, his patience starting to fray.

"I told you," I huffed, leaning against the cell bars with my arms dangling through them. "I don't know your name."

"Yes, you do."

I groaned and let my head fall into the crook of my elbow.

"Fine!" I stepped back, throwing my hands in the air. "I know your name. Happy?"

Erwin's eyes narrowed, intrigued now.

"And I know him," I added, nodding toward Mike. I crossed my arms over my chest, defensive.

"You know him?" Erwin asked, visibly more interested.

"Mike Zacharias. Humanity's Strongest. Six-foot-five, one hundred two kilograms. Born November 1st. Has a thing for sniffing people. Can smell Titans from miles away." I rattled it off like a bored student. Erwin's brows lifted just slightly. Mike sniffed in my direction with a faint scowl.

"How did you learn to use our gear?" Erwin asked, switching tactics.

"I pushed buttons and hoped for the best."

"You expect me to believe that?"

"I don't care what you believe," I snapped. "Adrenaline makes people do wild things. I hit what I could, and it worked. That's it."

We locked eyes. His were sharp, unreadable. I looked away first.

"Do you need anything else, Mr. Smith?" I asked flatly.

He exchanged a quick line of Japanese with Mike.

"Do you know her?" he asked him.

Mike glanced at me. "Never seen her. She smells... odd."

Erwin turned back to me. "I find it hard to believe your story. Your harness is secured perfectly—it takes training to do that. And your clothing..." He gestured at my hoodie and jeans. "I've never seen fabrics like that inside the Walls."

I sighed through my nose.

"So, how long am I stuck down here?"

Erwin stood and walked forward, the bars now the only thing between us. His height dwarfed mine. Without the cell separating us, yeah, I probably would've felt threatened. But this is Erwin Smith. He's not the type to—

"Do you know anything about them?" His voice dropped, sharper.

I blinked. "...Them?"

"The Colossal and Armored Titans."

The air went still. My arms tensed as I instinctively stepped back.

Oh. So that's what this is about.

The cell door creaked open, metal grinding against stone. Erwin stepped inside.

"Mike, leave us," he said without breaking eye contact.

Mike hesitated, but nodded and left.

I was alone. With Erwin Smith. In a locked cell.

Fantastic.

"Tell me everything you know," he said, stepping toward me. He can read straight through me.

"I-I don't know anything, I swear!" I stammered, backing into the wall. He didn't stop.
