I sat on the edge of a cot, my back pressed against the cold cement wall. Chains clinked softly as they weighed down my wrists, resting uselessly in my lap. My head leaned back, and I exhaled.

Three days.
Three days in this cell.
Three days away from the Survey Corps.
Three days of relentless interrogation.
And not a second of sleep.

My hair was a tangled mess. I could feel the exhaustion pulling at my eyes, and I knew the bags beneath them had only darkened. My shirt was torn, straps snapped, and a bloodstained bandage wrapped my hand—courtesy of the MPs.

Clang!

A loud bang against the bars sent a metallic echo ringing through the basement. I flinched and looked up. One of the interrogators stood there, smirking like he enjoyed seeing me broken.

I met his gaze with a glare, then turned my head away.

Nile hadn't shown his face since dumping me here. He'd left it to his two lackeys to do the dirty work.

Fucking coward.

The cell door creaked open. My tired eyes followed the noise, landing on the familiar figure of the older MP captain. He was only slightly taller than me, with a graying goatee and a balding patch on the back of his head. His uniform was tight around the gut—proof that his training had taken a backseat to beer.

He knelt, clamped cold handcuffs around my wrists, and unchained me from the wall. Then he grabbed my arm and yanked me to my feet.

"Walk."

He shoved me forward. I stumbled, but caught myself just before hitting the ground. My legs were jelly. I hadn't eaten. Barely any water. No sleep.

So this was how the Military Police treated people. Worse than I imagined.

As we trudged up a narrow flight of stairs, another soldier waited at the top. He hadn't seen me before—green eyes, blonde hair, just a little messy. He towered over me, and even in my haze I could tell he was solid muscle under the uniform.

His face shifted when he saw me—messy hair, bloodied bandage, hollow eyes.

"S-Sir, is she okay?" he asked, hesitant.

"She's walking, ain't she?" the captain muttered, placing a hand on the small of my back. I tensed at the contact.

The younger soldier noticed. His eyes darted to the captain's hand, but said nothing. Instead, he stepped in front of us.

That's when the hand on my back shifted—lower. And I felt it. He groped me.

What the fuck?!

I snapped.

My cuffed hands swung up, slamming into the captain's jaw. He staggered back with a grunt. I followed with another strike to the top of his head, then kicked him in the gut. He crumpled, gasping for air.

I turned to run—only to be grabbed around the waist and slammed into the wall.

My breath left me in a cough. I looked up into green eyes—those same green eyes from earlier.

"You saw what he did!" I shouted in Japanese.

He had my arms pinned above my head, my body struggling beneath his hold.

"I don't agree with it," he said quietly. "But he's my captain. Stop struggling."

His grip tightened. The handcuffs bit into my wrists again, making them bleed.
