Mature and sometimes a bit uptight are the first traits that come to mind when it comes to Samuel. He is smart and can have an overwhelming, even somewhat threatening presence to him, this coming from both his position of the head guard, and just his presence as a person. He has a very no-nonsense attitude and acts a lot older than he is, being frequently referred to as a father or grandparent. This isn't just in title though. While he has not fathered any children personally, he is known to treat those younger than him much like they are his own kids, especially his fellow guards. He is known to make routine rounds around the palace, not only to make sure everyone is on task, but just to make sure they are taking care of themselves.
He's also a cheap. Will do all he can to save a buck, seriously. Whether it be limiting time in showers, punishments for not turning lights off, or curfews so strict he turns off the internet. Man I bet he is soooo popular, especially with them ladies.
Keep it in your pants guys, he's taken.
He can be kind hearted at times, very sentimental as well who cares a lot about the past and is nostalgic. Commonly taking time to reminisce about old memories, bring back old thoughts and words he was exposed to, and just think about the past. He always says he remembers whatever he wants to.

|| HOBBIES/INTERESTS ||

Samuel is known to try literally anything. Have a book? He's probably already read it. Seeing a movie? He's seen the whole franchise. Picking up a new hobby? He has a list of the best supplies to get for said hobby and a whole guide on how to get the most out of it. He tries to dive himself into anything he possibly can, not miss out on anything the world has to offer. He will take anything you recommend him and watch it til it's end. He probably has a bunch of color coded binders full of in depth reviews and recommendations.
Yes, he has been tricked into watching things that made him question what kind of world he lives in and whether it not censorship really is socially inexcusable when there's stuff like whatever the heck that was. But oh well.
When he was younger it was his dream to be an actor, but do to his living conditions as a child and just the way the world worked, he never perused the dream. He still goes to watch plays whenever he has the chance however.

|| STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES ||

He is a v intimidating, harsh, and stubborn man. Take those things as a strength or flaw, I don't mind.  He is physically strong, even if he is on the thinner side (something he is pretty insecure about), and is pretty good at keeping a poker face and hiding his inner thoughts

His weakness is his wife, Isabelle. He has been, is, and always will be in love with her. He pines daily, and his insecurities take shape in a fear that he will never be truly good enough for her.
He loves her, and sometimes he wonders if that will be his flaw, and if it is, does he even care.

Simply that he isn't good enough, isn't strong enough, isn't fast enough, just isn't enough to do his job, protect the princes, take care of the family he found in the guards and his mother at home, and that he will lose the woman he loves and have to live with the grief and regret until the end of his days.

|| HOW'D THEY COME TO WORK AT THE PALACE ||

Samuel grew up in a poor household. His father died when he was in grade school and Samuel never was the, best student. He was book smart, sure. But shamefully he was more on the delinquent side of things. In search for work, he did a bunch of quick and odd jobs for money, and when he was of age he went and became a guard in training, quickly rising through the ranks until he got to where he is now.

He sees them as his kids, plain and simple.

Timothy: that boy needs to grow a pair. He is going to rule this country, he needs to learn how to act like it.

Rory: someone needs to get this kid some confidence classes. Teach him how to stand up for himself, please.

Theodore: please someone give him just a hint of modesty or something, please. And also a compass. Samuel is getting tired of escorting him through his own home.
