"Finally back home :)" read the text that George had stared at for about 15 minutes before responding.

"Finally, I missed you."

"I missed you too."

Dream had ended up staying with his family longer than he had planned to. George had gone crazy without him.

He immediately calls Dream.

"Hey, Dream!" George says with a smile on his face.

"Hey, George! How has it been?"

"To be honest, not great. It's tough without you."

"Yeah, it was weird being without you for so long. It was nice to get some thinking done, though."

"Thinking?"

"Yeah, I thought about a lot of things that had been keeping me up at night. I got to think about upcoming video or streams. I have a lot of new ideas! I thought a lot about you too."

"And?" George asks, hoping for a good answer.

"And you're my best friend, George, and that's what I need right now, a best friend. I love you, George. Even if it's not in the way that you want me to love you."

"Best friends?"

"I'm sorry, George."

"It's okay, Dream. I'd rather be your best friend than just a stranger."

"Will you promise me something, George?"

"Depends."

"I want you to promise me that you won't wait for me-"

"But-" George attempts to cut Dream off.

"-and that you'll move on."

"You know that I can't make that promise, Dream."

After the phone call, George had gone to the bench on top of the mountain that had always brought him comfort. He watched the orange and pink sunset slowly fade into a deep blue color. He sat and waited for the stars to come out. He waited and waited but they never came. The sky was surrounded by clouds, covering the moon and stars. He had sat there, on that bench, for a few hours, just contemplating life.

His phone buzzed, making him jump. He checked the time, 2 am. He sees a text from Dream and immediately checks it.

"The stars look really nice tonight."

George examined the photo attached to the text. The stars did look beautiful around Dream's house.

"No stars tonight for me, too cloudy."

"I'll send you more pictures if you'd like."

"That's alright, I am going to head to bed."

"Goodnight then."

"Goodnight."

George had walked back home and hopped into his warm bed. He looked back at the photo that Dream had sent him and smiled. Dream and the stars, the two most beautiful things in George's life.

George tried his hardest to fall asleep but he kept finding himself thinking about old memories with Dream. So he laid there, at 4 in the morning, unable to sleep, terrified with the realization that he would always love him, even if it wasn't in the same way that Dream had loved him.

He sat back up in his bed and stared at the wall until a light outside had caught his eye. 2 stars, sat right next to each other, shining brighter than any stars that he had ever seen. He smiled and laid back down in bed.

Dream and George may have not had a happily ever after love story, but they would always have each other, no matter what. Whenever they needed a reminder that the other was there for them, all they had to do was look up at the stars.
