"Bye! Thanks for keeping me posted on Rachel while your in New York."
"Hahaha anytime Beth! See you in a few days! Can't wait to come to your hometown."
"Yeah, yeah." She hung up and then flopped her upper body onto her bed.
She was excited that her friend would be coming to visit for a bit. She hadn't seen them since they met at a dance camp and seen each other at conventions when they were kids. She pulled up her texts with Percy knowing he would be arriving soon. They planned to work on their applications together. Well mostly Annabeth. Percy usually just wrote what he wanted to say and Annabeth would correct it.
She waited, and waited, waited some more. Around half an hour later she got suspicious...

"Oh my god! Your still as hilarious as you used to be!"
"How about this one. If you were on the McDonald's menu you'd be the McGorgeous!"
"Pfffff that's even worse!"
"Glad I got to catch up with your Rachel."
"Yeah! Tell Annabeth I say get well soon!" Her voice echoed through the speaker of Percy's phone.
"I will." Just like that Percy hung up and then realized the time. He instantly rushed out of the house on his skateboard, even forgetting to say bye to his mom.
His thoughts while riding to Annabeth's house were simple, She's gonna kill me. The wind blew in the opposite direction that he was skating so his hair blew. He came across the spot of the sidewalk where Annabeth had fallen, not a fun memory to remember. He had still yet to beat up Octavian. As soon as he got there he rushed upstairs and found Annabeth in her room staring at the ceiling.
"I am so sorry." He said propping his skateboard against her wall. He sat down next to her and she didn't meet his eyes. "You okay?"
She finally looked at him, her face blank, but her eyes filled with some emotion that Percy didn't know or couldn't place.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Her tone had a bit of sadness but lately it was normal. Everything was very sad and mumbled. Nothing was clear and spoken precisely like it was before the accident. Percy didn't want to be the one to tell her but he wanted to tell her it was going to be okay. He wanted to comfort her about it so badly but he knew if he did it would only make it worse.
After a few minutes of silence they started their essays. Annabeth knew exactly what to write, Percy...not so much. He had a lot to say but struggled getting it down on paper. He told Annabeth everything he had on his mind, anything that rolled off the tongue, anything that sparked his interest and joy. Anything he said, she wrote. It was one good well oiled machine of two people. After they finished a rough draft of Percy's essay they decided to take a short break.
Percy helped Annabeth down the stairs with her crutches and onto the couch. He grabbed sodas from the fridge and popped them open. He handed one to Annabeth and sat next to her. They didn't have much to talk about, weirdly, usually they were the chattiest pair of people alive.
Annabeth leaned her head on Percy's shoulder like she always had. He wrapped her in a hug and she scooted a tad closer. The warmth of his body felt nice against her. She looked up at him to see he was wearing that one goofy grin. She rolled her eyes and punched him in the side.
"Wipe that grin off your face..." She said slowly with a breathiness in her voice. She smiled softly and tried to get comfy again.
Percy felt a surge of pride and confidence. He looked down at Annabeth who was playing with the hem of her shirt. Her blonde curls were down and fr once he actually didn't miss her with a tight ponytail. He wanted to tell her that she was pretty with her hair down. He wanted to tell her a lot, actually. Something just happened to be stopping him. She turned her head to face him again, he did the same.
At first Percy thought, Not this again. Then the thought of, Wait... I'm kinda chill with this.
Annabeth repositioned herself so she could wrap her arms around his neck. She glanced at Percy and then they both started to lean in just like before, but just as before something went wrong.
"Annabeth?"
They both jumped apart to find a tall blonde guy standing at the doorway.
"LUKE!" She used her crutches as leverage to lift herself from the couch.
As soon as she got to the doorway Luke kissed her. Percy's eyes grew wide.
"Uhhhh hey, yeah, I'm Percy." He walked over to them and stuck out his hand.
"I'm Luke." He shook Percy's hand.
"Percy...this is my boyfriend as of two days ago..." She looked to the ground.
Percy felt all the pride and confidence from earlier slip away. It was a mat was pulled from right under him, without his knowledge.
"WAIT WHAT?!"
~~~~
A: I was going to tell you
P: When?
A: When Luke got here, but he came earlier then expected
P: How did it start?
A: Well I met him at a dance convention and camp a few years back. We didn't talk much, just a few things here and there. Then after my accident he was keeping my posted on Rachel. He was really nice about the whole thing and made me feel better about it...so we kinda started dating...
Percy couldn't move his fingers to type. He was the one to tell her it was going to be okay, not this Luke guy.
P: So I was making you feel worse?
A: No! You always make me feel better! Especially during my physical therapy! But it's different with you. You're my best friend and I really like it that way. Luke on the other hand is different, I guess I've always had the smallest crush on him.
P: Oh.
A: Still friends?
P: Sure, friends.
Percy looked at his phone once more before turning it off.
