Kaen's POV

Without thinking, I smash my mouth to hers.

Our kiss is full of passion, and I feel electricity shoot throughout my body.

I've kissed plenty of girls before... but it's never felt like this. Those kisses were all just meaningless, it was pure lust. But this... kissing someone with meaning... changes everything. And the fact that it's her.

Our tongues connect, swirling around each other. She tasted like mint, and her lips were so soft. My hands explore all over her body, and I back into the couch, sitting down. She straddles on top of me, and kisses my neck.

"Fuck..."

Her every touch sends shocks all throughout me, and it feels so fucking good. Her hands grip my hair, then travel down to the hem of my shirt. She puts her hands underneath it, feeling all over my abs and my chest.

What the fuck am I doing? We can't do this. As much as I don't want to, I have to stop this.

"Ash... stop."

She's taken aback by my words, "What's wrong?"

"We can't do this."

"Why not?"

"Because... it just doesn't feel right."

"Oh. So, you weren't just enjoying all of that?"

"No, no, that's not what I mean... believe me, I was definitely enjoying it. I mean to do this right now... doesn't feel right."

She has a puzzled look on her face, "I'm not in the right head space, and to be honest with you... I'm still pissed at you for lying to me all of this time."

She gets off of me, and sits on the couch, "I get it. I'm sorry."

"Why did you even lie in the first place?"

She hesitates before speaking, "I... I can't tell you."

"Come on, Ash. I already found out so just tell me the truth. The whole truth."

She takes a deep breath, "Okay. I guess I'll start at the beginning."

Let's hear this.

"I was born with two affinities— siren and flight. Flight is pretty common, and people are gifted with it in all different sorts of ways, but siren is extremely rare. They found out about them pretty much as soon as I was born, probably only a couple days later. My parents decided to name me Ashling, which means beautiful vision. My affinity is the reason they chose this name for me. I learned how to use them pretty quickly, and my father trained me so that I could master them."

She sighs, "Growing up... I used to love my affinities. I always kept my wings out, and I would create the most beautiful imaginary worlds for my friends and I to play in. My father didn't like it. He thought I was wasting my time doing "stupid things" with my affinities, so he forbid me from seeing them anymore."

Her father.

Of course that prick has something to do with this.

"My father trained me every single day. He barely let me rest, and if I did something wrong... he would hurt me for it. My mother tried to help, but she would only end up getting hurt, too."
