FINALLY this is up! I'm very sorry to anyone who has been waiting, but it's here now! I've also decided I'm going to move between this challenge and other Silent Witness fics that I have planned, so I can keep my motivation up!

Day Eighteen Prompt:
Rain
Are the otp caught up in the bad weather, cozy inside, or are they somewhere like on a spaceship or in the middle of the desert yearning for a good storm?

This one is such basic fanfic and I'm not very happy with how it turned out (possibly because it took me nearly two months to write!!) but I hope that someone out there enjoys it! X

Jack had decided that he wanted to return to the crime scene of the recent case he and Nikki had been working on, convinced he had missed something. And somehow, he'd persuaded Nikki to come along with him.

She didn't really want to, thinking he was being a little far fetched in his thoughts. But still, she found herself sitting in the driving seat, hands on the steering wheel, taking Jack to his desired destination.

Nikki could sense the rain in the air even before they set off, but Jack was so determined that he'd missed something, she kept her thoughts to herself.

The body had been found in the middle of nowhere, just off a country road. It was a couple of hours drive from the Lyell, the scenery changing from industrial buildings to rolling fields. Recognising familiar surroundings from the other week, Nikki pulled up to a group of trees, Jack barely leaving time for her to turn the engine before he jumped out, grabbing his forensic bag from the boot and starting to walk away from the car. Nikki took her time, following behind him reluctantly, arms folded across her chest.

Each step they took, the darker the sky got. Jack hadn't been paying attention to it, Nikki having to remind him every other minute that it was clouding over.

Suddenly, the skies opened. The first drop Nikki felt sent a shiver down her spine, landing on the top of her head, then dripping down her neck. Another, another and soon the sky was throwing it down. It wasn't long before Nikki's hair was sopping wet, her coat was drenched and her shoes were soaked through. She didn't even look in Jack's direction; swiftly on her heel she turned, rushing back to the car as quickly as possible.

Even though she was back in the warmth, she was still bloody freezing. Her clothes were sticking to her, her hair was sticking to her. As Jack piled into the passenger's seat, she refused to look at him, turning away in her seat.

"That was unsuccessful," he said.

Nikki huffed loudly, rolling her eyes.

"You don't say."

"We might as well just head off. It doesn't look like this rain is going to stop."

Nikki nodded frustrated, taking off her coat and throwing it onto the back seat. They both put on their seatbelts and Nikki turned the ignition key. Nothing happened. She tried again. Still nothing.

"For fuck's sake," she hissed.

This was the last thing she needed.

"We're going to have to ring someone," Jack said, stating the obvious. Sighing, Nikki obeyed and got out her phone, muttering under her breath as she did so. The man at the garage told her he'd be there in just under an hour, Nikki being polite to him verbally, but cursing him in her head for taking such a long time.

Once she'd finished speaking to him, Jack and Nikki sat in silence for a while, Nikki trying to cure her boredom by watching each raindrop trickle down the window. She could feel Jack's eyes boring into her neck, and he was the one to speak first.
