Evelyn's POV

"Why is Nathan here?" Charlotte croaked on her bed. She didn't really seem happy about it. But Charlotte and Nathan went along really well, so that confused me a little.

"He's here to take care of you." I said nicely.

"Oh! It wasn't necessary." She said harshly. I was shocked to see Charlotte talk about Nathan's kindness like that. Charlotte used to really like Nathan and they played their little childish games together.

"Be nice. I'll make you a soup." I said and walked out. I was a little angry with her. But I couldn't be completely frustrated because she was sick. I didn't want to make her feel worse.

Suddenly the door bell rang, and Nathan stood up to go get it. I walked behind him, because I didn't expect Charlotte to have visitors at that time of the night.

Surpringly, it was none other than my own mother!

"Mum?" I asked shocked. Why did she come all the way from the suburbs to the city for Charlotte when I was around?

She gave a non pleasing look when she saw Nathan there, and I noticed Nathan smirking in return. What was going on with this family, I thought to myself.

"Uhm Hello Dear, I was here to see if Charlotte was ok." She said all of a sudden, to stop the awkward silence that was buliding in the air.

"I could do that too Mum." I replied.

"Well, you can stay here and help me look after her." She said.

"Whatever." I muttered walking away and Nathan following closely behind. We walked into the kitchen and I started gathering the ingredients and equipment needed to make a good bowl of soup. I could hear faint whispers coming from Char's room. I ignored it for a little while. But then they started getting louder and I think I heard something like, 'ruined all our plans'. But then again, It could have just been my imagination.

"It's so weird. Mum never cared about me even when I was running with the worst fever." I told Nathan. "And not saying it as a bad person, but she's always showed me a better liking over Char. This is weird that she's here to take care of her when she's running with like a little cold and blowey nose." I grumped. Not that I was a jealous daughter of all the attention Char was getting at the moment. It was just that, things were not feeling right.

"Maybe, she wanted to be nice to Charlotte for once." Nathan replied.

"Perhaps! But again, it could also be 'cause of something else." I muttered to myself.

"What was that?" Nathan asked.

"Oh Nothing. Erm.. Could you get me some water? Thanks babe." I smiled and Nathan gave me a weird look in return.

My mother came into the kitchen soon. "How's it going?" She asked.

"It's alright mum. How's Charlotte?" I asked.

"She's getting worse! Oh I've never seen my baby like that before! I feel really bad." She faked a few tears. I could tell they were fake because I knew my mother. My mother was really being a whole new person. I remembered when I was 8 years old and Charlotte was 7, she got infected with a very bad disease. My father ran around the place trying to revive her. Whereas my mother never showed the slightest concern. Her whole new face was just too new for me to get used to.

"She'll be fine."

"Oh and Nathan. Can I talk to you dear?" She asked kindly to which Nathan gave an angry look. Again, I could tell he was angry because I knew Nathan. And Nathan my mother also never had any problems. I realized that Nathan was hiding some huge thing from me. He better have a good excuse for this, I sighed to myself. They both walked out of the kitchen when Nathan nodded in agreement.
