{Chapter Fourteen - Roots}
~ Because we're so fucking mean,
We're so elitist,
We're as fucked as any church ~

Cordelia looked up as she heard a knock on her door.
"Come in."
The door creaked slightly as it opened, and her daughter appeared, crossing the room to sit in the seat opposite Cordelia's desk.
"Hi."
"Make it quick, honey, I have a lot to do."
The girl looked at her hands, avoiding her mother's gaze.
"I think I need to leave."
"What?"
"I think I want to leave..."
Cordelia looked at her with a frown.
"Nate and I will get a pla-"
"You're only 18!" Cordelia exclaimed, "And with Nathan? Are you sure he's the one?"
"There's nothing wrong with Nathan!"
"Why? Why do you want to leave?"
"I... I don't really feel like I belong. Well, obviously I do belong because here is where my family is, but my best friend is dead, and-"
"Elora, if you died, Madison wouldn't give a crap about you. Stop grieving her."
The girl ignored the comment, and continued,
"I mean, it makes sense for Zoe and Queenie to stay, because they can teach the new sisters, but not me. Admit it, I'm helpless."
"You are not helpless." Cordelia's stomach sunk. She had been so concentrated on making sure Elora's powers didn't get out of hand, that she had ruined her daughter's self-esteem in the process, and made her think she was helpless. "But you are too young to leave."
"Let me make my own decisions."
Cordelia sighed deeply, "If you won't listen to me as your mother, maybe you'll listen to me as your supreme. You are not ready to leave home. I forbid it."
"Wow, Cordelia," Her daughter raised an eyebrow, and Cordelia filled with dread as she heard her daughter call her her real name. "You really can't deal with your only bird flying from their nest, can you?"
"You aren't the only bird I've had to let go of." Tears sprung to Cordelia's eyes as she recalled the deaths of basically all the sisters in the coven at some point, including Misty, who she loved.
"Well, you aren't even my mother."
As soon as she had said the words, she regretted them. It didn't even feel like her who said them. She had spent all of her life being nice and caring towards others, that saying something like this felt almost refreshing. But she knew this would strike a cord with a Cordelia.
