Making love as a married man was better than any other type of love Kellan had ever experienced. Despite the plentiful mistakes he had made along the way, he was now a married man, to the most challenging and wonderful woman in the world. She fell asleep wrapped in his arms. As much as he did not want to let go of her, he knew someone must bid farewell to the guests, so moving ever so slightly, as not to wake her, he shimmied out of the bed and redressed himself.
"Where are you going?" Belinda asked sleepily, he must have been more noisy than he had thought. Either that or she was the lightest sleeper on Earth. "You're not trying to run away are you?"
"No," Kellan said, pulling on his trousers, "I figured I would just ask our guests to leave. I figured I would tell them you have a headache. That seems like a reasonable excuse coming from you, does it not?'
Belinda sat up in bed, "It would, except you are putting your trousers on backwards."
Kellan looked down, only slightly embarrassed, "Yes, well I do see how that would be a problem." He removed his pants and put them on correctly this time, "I'll be back as soon as I can." Kellan ran over and kissed his new wife on the top of her head.
"You'll know exactly where to find me." she smiled sweetly.
Kellan wished he could capture this moment in his mind and somehow show it to himself just a few weeks earlier. He had come to London expecting to settle for some sort of life. Belinda Bassett was not someone who you settled for.
"I am dreadfully sorry everyone," Kellan said, making his way back into the ballroom, "But my wife," the words felt giddy on his tongue, "Has got a most dreadful headache. I'm afraid I must bid our farewells for the night. Thank you for coming."
Kellan thought he could hear some giggles, or lewd comments, but who was he to deny the truth. The whole time that he shook hands with some of the last guests felt like a thousand years away from Belinda, even though it couldn't have been more than a few minutes. As soon as he bid his last farewell ,Kellan walked-no he ran with a lovestruck pace back to his wife.
Oddly enough, he was relieved to see her there. He knew she wouldn't run from him, but maybe it was because being with her felt too good to be true. But there Belinda sat writing away at her little journal.
"I didn't know you brought that with you?"
"You couldn't guess?" Belinda teased
Kellan shrugged, "I guess you are right, are you writing about me?"
"You really are nosy, aren't you," Belinda flipped the book closed as Kellan drew closer to her.
"If I wasn't just the least bit nosy, then I do believe we would not be together."
"How tragic, I cannot bear the thought" there was a flair of extra drama coming off of her words, made even more dramatic through Belinda's flaring hands.
Kellan laughed, "I didn't realize I married an actress, either."
"I guess you have much to learn." Belinda smiled.
