the next day, raena spotted her new friend seated at the back of the bus with his headphones on. nodding his head to the music he was dressed in his usual black. she was also wearing black today.
i guess it was meant to be she jokes.
she swiped her card, headed to the back of the bus, and plopped down next to yoongi. she plucked the headphone out of his ear, earning an annoyed look from him.
"hi friend," she beamed at him.
"look if we're going to be friends, we need to have some rules," he said, taking back his earbud.
"but there's no rules in friendships," raena pointed out.
"um ever heard of the bro code? sisters before misters? bros before hoes?" he shot back with a raised eyebrow.
she blinked.
"but we're not bros or sisters."
yoongi shut his eyes as if he had just gotten a massive headache. raena gave him a confused look but she knew it meant she was winning the argument. she hid a smile. yoongi suddenly opened his eyes and sighed.
"rule number one," he Ignored her point. "don't bother me when i'm listening to music,"
"but how will i know when you're listening to music. you could be pretending or lying," raena crosses her arms.
yoongi scoffed, "i wouldn't lie." he recalled himself pretending to already be asleep when she took a picture of him the other day.
"rule number two," raena began, "no lying. in order to be friends, we have to trust each other. so let's be honest.
yoongi didn't know exactly how to put all his trust and be transparent with a stranger, but he guessed it was part of being friends. he still wasn't quite used to it.
"fair," he nodded, pausing his music and removing another airbud. "rule number three.."
raena hummed in response.
"don't bother me and taehyung when we're making music. it's a creative process," yoongi gave her a look, "i don't expect you to understand as a non-intellectual."
raena scrunched her nose, "rule number four! don't be rude, yoongi."
yoongi jerked his hair to the side the take it out of his eyes. when they locked eyes, she felt her heart skip a beat. she was almost scared for a second. the sudden eye contact was weird. it was like she forgot what having a friend was like. sure she made acquaintances with her co-workers or with the barista at the coffee shop she visits when she has a free day, but they weren't her friends. raena hasn't had one of those since highschool.
"what if it's part of my personality?" he questioned, taking her back to reality.
"it's not," raena replied. "you can be rude SOMETIMES but it's not a part of you."
yoongi nodded with purses lips but another question popped up in his mind, "how do you know? you don't know me."
raena became giddy at her next words. yoongi could see this and was prepared for her to say a mouthful.
"this brings me to my next rule. rule number six—"
"—five—"
"—shhh! i'm talking, yoongs, don't be rude," raena bsushed the man, batting her eyes in his direction. he scoffed, but she could see the corner of his lips quirking into a small smile. "rule number five is we have to do something different together every day until we become real friends." she clapped her hands at her GREAT idea.
yoongi raised a brow before looking around the bus in disbelief. but he nodded nonetheless for this is what he agreed to. raena mumbled a small "yay" and there a was a moment of silence between them.
suddenly yoongi remembered the events of yesterday wit raena and her annoying boss. maybe that's where she was going. he hesitated to ask, not wanting to pry but he felt it would be one of his first acts of frienship.
yoongi cleared his throat and raena whipped her head to face him.
"are you going to work now?" he asked, avoiding her gaze.
"yep! i'm gonna see seokjin and it's probably going to be so weird but it's okay because it just going to be me and him." she marveled. "
"and a bunch of dirty plates and floors," yoongi snorted.
"stop, you're being rude" raena slapped his arm. "plus i have a new plan to win him over for my jobs sake and for my love life!"
"i'm not, being rude" yoongi protested, "i just don't understand what you see in him especially since how rude he is to you. and why the hell would you have to work so hard to pay for something you can get cheap somewhere else? it just makes no sense. it's stupid even—"
"—uh uh uh rule number four," raena scolded with a playful smile.
yoongi huffed and mumbled a whatever. "what's your 'new plan'?" he asks instead.
"to change!" she said triumphantly.
he furrows his brows.
"yep. i'm a little too immature and childish and cheery for him so i have to be the opposite. or you know like being very quiet at work instead of being how i usually am and then he'll notice and be like 'oh my gosh what is this silence i hear, where has the beautiful sound of raena's voice gone? i must find hear her voice'!" she joked.
yoongi chuckled making raena's head turn to him. she smiled.
after a moment he just shook his head at her plan. "look i don't think anyone needs to change themselves for anyone, unless there are a bad person."
"well, dont think of it like me changing, but more like me discovering another side of me that seokjin probably likes."
yoongi just shrugs not really sure if it was his place to advise her to go against her plan. not bothering anymore, putting his earbuds back in his ears. the rest of the bus ride was a comfortable silence between them. it seemed like both their minds were occupied with something else.
raena thought about seokjin then when she got bored, she counted how many people she saw passing by. then that got boring really quick and she felt herself gradually shutting her eyes, until finally she fell asleep.
yoongi felt a familiar weight on his shoulder. he had been listening to music again, his same song which we worked on his free time when he wasn't with taehyung or working at his job that raena has yet to know.
yoongi let out an annoyed groan. he couldn't believe this was happening again. he paused his music with the simple click from his ear buds and with two fingers, pushed her head away from his shoulder and on the window.
but of course, that didn't work when her heavy head began to fall on his shoulder again, her hair tickled the pale skin of his neck. he let her fall, not really having the energy to push her again.
he knew he had to get close to her to become friends but he still wasn't sure yet if they were on the leaning on each other stage yet. however, a part of him told him they've already reached that stage when they met, so why not?
yoongi clicked the play button from his ear buds then skipped the song he was previously listening to and bobbed his head to the beat of his most mellow track.
the slow rhythm and his soft rap whispering into his own ears made him suddenly feel drowsy. so, he stopped bobbing his head to the melody and just closed his eyes.
