Well this sucked.
Philza had named Techno 'Onyx', and had decided that attacking the fortress was a good idea.
And it made sense, admittedly. But it was dangerous. If Phil fell off Techno's back, he'd be stranded with a wounded leg and wing. His shoulder was better, but still unreliable.
If he fell, he'd be able to slowly hobble away, where normally he'd run or fly.
Techno had become extremely difficult to hurt. He was practically a tank. The arrows barely grazed his skin; they got stuck in his fur. And even if they did hit him, his skin was so thick it barely did anything.
And the few arrows that had drawn blood did almost nothing anyways.
Phil did not have thick fur and skin. He couldn't shrug off hits. And he didn't even have his best armor.
But there was no other way through. And the fortress was full of wither knights and skeletons. Techno, despite the shouts of 'Technoblade never dies' that echoed forever in his head, was nervous that tomorrow would be his last day.

"We need to be quiet." Phil whispered. Onyx grunted softly and continued forwards. "If they spot us, we're dead."
Onyx flicked an ear and continued creeping towards the fortress. Phil crept up its neck, onto its head.
"Ok, I'm going to make sure the way is clear through the window. Then we can find a way in."
Onyx whuffed, hopefully in agreement.
Phil peeked through the window. Nothing.
"Ok, it looks like there's an entrance over there." He whispered.
The hoglin grunted and moved towards where Phil pointed. The entrance was large, probably used for the withered horses.
They moved into the fortress. It was quiet, practically silent. No footsteps, or bones rattling, just silence.
Onyx's hooves clicked softly on the blackstone floor. Its breathing filled the air.

It was quiet, too quiet. We're they walking into a trap? Techno kept his ears up, listening. His eyes darted around, examining every shadow, every escape route.
Phil's hands tightened on Techno's fur as he crouched lower, his undamaged wing opening slightly.
It was hot in here. Much hotter than outside. Thinking about it, Techno realized that since he'd transformed, the heat of the nether didn't bother him as much. But now he was finally feeling the heat.
To Phil, this heat would be unbearable. Of course, in their long lives, they'd both felt worse, even the sting of lighting, but still.

The ashy nether air was always stifling, but in here, with no moving air, it was ten times worse. Phil wondered if Onyx had some heat resistance, or if it was suffering just as much as Phil, or even more, since the hoglin was covered in thick fur.
Phil patted Onyx's side. "If we keep going this way, we should get through."
Onyx grunted.
But they didn't get out. The place was like a maze. They passed armories and rooms full of weapons.
It wasn't completely deserted. Occasionally they had to duck into a side room to avoid a few skeletons, but there wasn't nearly as many skeletons as there should have been, and there weren't any wither knights.
Finally, they came to a courtyard. And a way out, under an arch. Onyx walked towards it.
An arrow hit the ground in front of the hoglin's hooves. It froze.
"You think you can come into our fortress and simply walk around, then leave?" A voice called. "We will ensure that you, Philza Minecraft, Death's Angel, will not escape us."
Wither knights appeared along the walls, the large gaps between them filled with skeletons, both withered and unwithered.
Philza and Onyx were surrounded.
