I'm so excited to go on a run with Vaughn today! I know it's not the best of circumstances, but I've got to do the best with what I've got. That's what mom always said.
I look at myself in the mirror and give my reflection a pained smile.
I lightly dust the sleeves of my white t-shirt and smooth over my track pants as I make my way out of the bathroom.
"You ready to head out to the field Vaughn? I think a run is exactly what we need to wake us up."
I watch as Vaughn makes his way over and looks down at me with dark eyes.
"Listen," he says in a hushed voice.
"When we get out onto the field, don't talk to me, don't look at me. Stay as far away from me as possible."
My smile falters.
I don't know what to say. I don't want to make him to know I'm upset so I brave a smile.
"Sure thing! You won't even know I'm there. Umm, but I think people will figure out we're roommates at some point."
"It's not just that. I can't have people giving me shi- shiz because I finally decided to keep a roommate."
I understand.
"No worries! I'm invisible." I give Vaughn a small smile. He looks away.
"I'll leave first and after five minutes, you'll follow, Vaughn says looking at the clock.
I nod.
