Thirteen Years Later
~ Adelina ~
I live in a condo with not much stuff. I have some blood bags from the hospital in the fridge, spell books, herbs, some clothes and my mother's necklace. I've cut and dyed my hair. I've also used wigs. I've never used my natural dirty, dark blond hair. It almost looks brown.

I showered and change into a dark red turtle neck, blue jeans, boots and a grey poncho. Curled my hair and put on light makeup. I don't have a car. And if I do need one, I can just compel someone to let me borrow their car. I did a spell on myself where other supernaturals won't know that I'm a vampire, werewolf or a witch or all three. They will just smell a human.

The song, Cherry Bomb by the Runaways plays. It's my phone. It's Max!

"Yes, Max?"

"Hey Lina. How is— well wherever you are living?"

"It's okay. I'll survive. I'm just heading somewhere to eat. You?"

"I'm fine. Just got done with training. I really wish you'd tell me where you are, so I can keep you safe."

"I know you do, but you are like the only family I have and I'm not going to risk that. Do you remember what happened last time?"

Silence on the other end of the phone. He must still be very sad.

"Just to warn you. There are rumors spreading about how Bayard Night is looking for the Tribrid and anyone else who knows."

Chills went up and down my spine. My hair stuck up to.

"Ok thanks for letting me know. And I'll be careful. Bye."

"Okayyyy. Bye, Lina."

This is not good.

I hung up and grabbed my purse. Besides my wallet I have a few knives, a gun and a sleep injection. I can't use my powers unless I have to. Michigan is nice and cool. I live here now because of the snow. Where I lived with my mother had lots of snow. When I shift I can be easily camouflaged and no other wolf or vampire or witch can see me. Just sense me. I'm a pure white wolf. The only one. If anyone saw me in my wolf form, there will be rumors. I'm other places I used an invisibility spell when I'm a wolf. Walking through the city is nice. There's a lot of people, but no one notices you.

I don't like the attention. Well maybe a little.

Don't judge me. I have been hiding for thirteen years! Give me a break.

My wolf then speaks to me.

We've lived here for three months now and there hasn't been trouble, Adelina.

I know Danny, but you just might jinx us!

I'm sorry! Jeez. Question. Do you think we will ever find our mate?

I hesitated.

I don't know, Danny. I doubt it. And even if we did. There is nothing he can do to protect us.

But what if we do?

We won't.

Just answer the question!

Fine. Fine. If we do... we run. Hide. Make sure we never see him again. I don't think I have it in me to reject him.

She whimpers.

Trust me Danny. I want a mate as much as you do, but are you really willing to sacrifice our mate's life?

No.

Okay then, it's settled.

Okayyyyy.

She cuts off our link.

I head into FLUID Coffee Roasters cafe. I sense a lot of werewolves here, but they don't know that. When I walked in I felt like an electric pulse for a split second.

Mate! We found our mate Adelina!

I know we did! Quite!

She whimpers and cuts off our mind link again.

I walked towards an empty table with one seat and ordered a cup of coffee and a croissant. I can see him from the side. My mate. Dark and wavy brown hair, beautiful eyes—- Wait! What?! What am I saying?! I can feel him staring at me. And his friends. Of course I am the only "human" here. I hope he didn't feel that electric pulse earlier. Damn this stupid spell!

I got my coffee and croissant and started to listen in on his conversation with them. Yup I'm nosy.

"Do you know who she is Alpha?" His (I think) Beta asked.

"No. I don't think so. I felt a electric pulse for a split second. It couldn't be her. She smells human. She is human."

Thank the lord! He doesn't know!

"Wait. The necklace around her neck. It's a crescent moon. Your mother said something about it. I just can't remember." Beta's (I think) mate said.

Oh no. No.

"You're right. Should we find out Alpha?"

Please, no. Please, no.

He nodded.

CRAP!

I have to make a diversion. I finished my croissant and coffee. I see a waiter coming my way. Here I go.

I got up and bumped into the waiter. "Oh my god. I'm so sorry. Let me help you clean up." The waiter said.

"No it's fine. No worries. I should be sorry. Do you know where the bathroom is?"

"Yeah. Yeah. It's all the way in the back."

"Thanks."

I walked towards the back, but went towards the back door instead. Good thing no one is here in the alleyway. I made a portal that leads to my condo and went through. Time to move again. Sigh. Ugh.
