Synopsis:

Two men are resting in a flower field, talking before they are drafted into war.

🌻Hey y'all! I hope you like this ʕʔ!

It was morning when James was in the sunflower fields. The sun rose just above the sky, peaking above the horizon. A cool summer breeze blew through the flowers, which made them sway to the left ever so gently.

*I hope he comes soon* He thought.

Hearing the sound of approaching footsteps, James turns his head to see Brian. His heart swelled inside of his chest. He takes in a sharp breath, a smile displayed now on James's face. Brian reciprocated the smile.

It wasn't hard to see why Brian was so attractive. His dazzling white smile, his bulky muscles, his stunningly blue eyes. His skin was slightly tanned—probably because he spent so much time outside in the sun playing football. Not to mention the fluffy brown hair atop his head. James could go on for hours about how much he admires Brian's physique. Brian's outfit was similarly stunning. A varsity jacket on top of a black t-shirt, and a pair of jeans that definitely did him favors.

"James?" Brian asked, now sitting beside James.

"Huh? Oh..sorry. I was Uh.." James blushes. The rosy tint contrasted heavily with his pale skin.

"Staring" Brian finishes the sentence, smirking.

"Yeah.." James says, rubbing the back of his neck. "Why are you wearing your old jacket? That thing has to be like 10 years old at this point." The jacket looked like it had its fair share of love.

"For nostalgia. I remember when I first saw you in the locker room in the gym and you handed me my jacket since it fell on the ground. You looked so embarrassed to even be talking with me."

"I was." James stated as he looked down at his fingernails. They were relatively short because he started biting them in anxiety.

The silence in the air now left room for the tension to bubble over. The conflict that they had been avoiding- that led to this whole meeting.

"I like the sunflowers this time of year," Brian said, trying to start up the conversation again.

"Yea they're nice" he felt the anxiety bubble. "I'm gonna miss you."

"Jesus, James."

"What?"

Brian was quiet for a few minutes before he moved his hand to place it over James's. James smiled sheepishly. "I just don't wanna think about a war right now. I wanna relax and spend my time with you." He huffed.

"Sorry."

"Don't apologize."

James leaned into Brian, and he looked up at his..what was he to Brian. Boyfriend? Significant other? Partner? Lover? They'd never explicitly been together and tried to keep their relationship a secret. But this also didn't mean they weren't together. Brian leaned back into James and wrapped an arm around him, having pulled the other tightly to his side.

"At least promise me you won't fool with nobody else?" James asks, looking up at Brian. His eyes were slightly wide.

"I promise."

James let out a small sigh of relief. "Thank you."

Brian pressed a gentle kiss to James's cheek. "You know, not even Jeanette compares to your soft skin," he says. James frowned at the mention of Jenny. She was Brian's most recent girlfriend, and they only broke up because James had been selfish. His jealousy had gotten the better of him. Brian said he didn't blame James, but James knew he felt otherwise. "Sorry. I didn't mean to mention her." He says after noticing James's expression turn sour.

"It's fine.."

"So, what do they have you on? Medical?"

"Yeah. They say I'm too mentally unfit to work any other position" James says. He wasn't sure if that was a blessing or a curse.

"It'll put my mind at ease. " Brian muttered. "I'll make sure to think of you when I spend time alone, looking at-"

"Brian! Ugh!" James scoffed, hitting Brian on the shoulder gently.

"You looked so good. I relish the photos every second I'm alone." Brian's inflection told him that he was joking, but James still pouted. "You're so easy to tease."

"Am not!"

"Are too~"

"Ugh!"

"Ugh."

James missed this. Their bantering, their cuddling, and their kisses only they shared. "I'll write to you~" he says.

"I'll make sure to save them under my pillow" Brian says.

James reluctantly gets up from the ground, having his backside dusted off. Brian stood up as well and bent over to cup his lover's cheek in his hand. James leaned into the warm hand. Brian leaned down to kiss him, their lips connected gently.

When Brian pulled away, James frowned. James let go of Brian's hand and watched him walk back off into the forest, a road next to it where Brian's car was most likely parked.
