Dear, Y/n L/n.
It is with great pleasure that I, Albus Dumbledore, offer you an open position as the new professor of the Defence Against the Dark Arts Class. A Witch of your standard and background would be firstly, a most welcome change to these all too familiar castle walls, and secondly a great fit for the position.
I know you will choose wisely. Please send an owl before summers end.
Albus W.B. Dumbledore
You read the letter over and over again for hours. The smile on your face never faltered as you took in every word on the yellow parchment. You wouldn't need till the end of summer before making your choice. Grabbing a piece of parchment from your desk drawer, you dipped your quill into the bottle of ink and began writing.
Of course you were going to take the position. Teaching at Hogwarts had been your dream since graduating five years ago. You were the top of your year, and even your house, in all of your classes. After graduating and leaving Hogwarts, you went on to attend muggle college to study teaching in hope for this day. Even if you never received the letter from Dumbledore, you knew you wanted to teach, one way or another.
You practically skipped on your way to your parents house, your feet light and your body buzzing. Your parents lived right next door. It was nice. You had the privacy of your own home with the added comfort of your mother and father being close. You didn't even bother knocking as you bound your way into your childhood home.
The peach painted livingroom greeted you as you closed the door. The whole house smelled of coffee and cinnamon. You poked your head into the kitchen, frowning, seeing it empty.
"Mom?" You called out.
"Up stairs, sweetheart!"
You walked up the stairs, skipping every other step. Your mother poked her head out of her bedroom, a smile spread across both of your faces. Her long brown hair tied into a bun, her face made up with the softest touch of blush and lip stick. A yellow sundress dotted with blue flowers flowed past your mothers knees. It was the weekend and you knew your parents had their weekly date.
"What brings you here, sweetheart?" Your mother asked, her smile still on her face as she pulled you into a warm hug. Her perfume smelled sweet as you hugged her back.
"Where's Dad? I have some good news." You couldn't stop the smile growing wider on your face.
"He should be home any minute now." She hummed.
"Talking behind your Fathers back now?" A low voice said behind do you.
You spun around quickly, a look of surprise on your face as you held you chest and leaned against the wall for support.
" Fuck!" You cried out, laughing almost immediately as your eyes landed on your father.
"Y/n!" your mother scolded, smacking your arm, "Watch your language!"
"Sorry." You laughed, rubbing the spot she smacked.
Your father shook his head before opening go his arms, motioning for you to come. Obviously you obliged, wrapping your arms around the man. He smelled strongly of saw dust, and you had to stifle a sneeze as you pulled back.
"What are you doing here, kiddo?" He asked, a large smile on his face.
"Mom, Dad" You looked at them both, as they stood side by side. "You are now looking at the new Hogwarts Defense Against the Dark Arts Professor"
Your smile grew as you watched your parents faces turn to that of shock. Your fathers face reflected your own. A large goofy grin spread across his bearded face. Your mother pulled you into another hug, telling you how proud she was of and how happy she was for you.
"We need to go shopping" She gasped, pulling away from you.
"Does that mean a rain check on our date?" Your father asked her, shooting you a quick not-so-suttle wink.
~~~~~~~Diagon Alley~~~~~
Having stopped at Gringotts and pulling out a couple hundred galleon from the money you had saved up from working part time during college, you and your mother went clothes shopping. Of course, the wordrobe you had now was just fine, your mother insisted you needed somthing professional.
The two of had entered Madam Malkins Robes for all Occasions and browsed the store. You decided since you were going to be a teacher, and not a student in once particualr house, you bought one robe for each house. A red robe with velvet yellow designs , a dark blue robe with black silk trim on the sleaves and collar, a yellow robe with black swirl designs, and a dark green robe with silver trim and small silver snake designs. You decided to grab a couple plain black robes too, for those days when you didnt want colour.
At Twillfitt and Tattings, you bought a few pants-suits and simple dresses. Sleepwear and outfits for the weekends could be nabbed from your own wardrobe.
Your father met you and your mother outside the shop with bags in his hands. You eyed them suspiciously, giving him a questioning look. He just smirked and shook his head.
"Get everything go you needed?" He asked, draping an arm around your mothers shoulder.
"Yea, I think so." You smiled at the sight of the two.
"Good. Lets get home. Im starving." Your mother chimed.
~~~~Home~~~~
"That was absolutely delicious, Darling" your mother sighed with all smile.
"Absolutly, dad. Thank you." You said, giving your father a satisfied pat of your belly.
As much as you loved your mother, she could not cook. At all. You remembered waking up one morning to the sound of the fire alarm going off when your mother tried making breakfast for your 11th birthday. The pancakes were a black charcoal block when you ran downstairs in panic. My father threw the still smoldering heap in to the trash bin. That was an bad idea as the trash bin proceeded to catch fire. One of the best birthdays ever if you were honest.
"Now Y/n, " You father started, "I have a gift for you. Nothing too big or fancy, I'm afraid" He said grinning.
"I was wondering when you were gonna tell me what was in those bags." You laughed.
"Yea well, don't get your hopes too high, its just some stuff I thought youd need and like for your new teaching job. Professor L/n. " Your father said.
You grinned widely as he called you Professor. It made you giddy. Your mother started to cry, dabbing her napkin to her eyes.
"Oh stop that" your father nudged her, causing her to chuckle.
Walking out of the dining area, the three of you sat in the living room. You sat on the couch next to your mother as you father fetched the bags. You mother gave you are quick hug, telling you how proud she was of you, and how she loved you. A quick moment later you father plopped himself on the other side of you, handing you the bags.
"Thank you." you said, giving your father a quick hug.
"Thank me after you open them" He laughed.
The first bag you opened contained a few different colloured quills and note pads varying in size. Another bag held folders and binders. Those would be useful in organizing your classes by years , you thought. The last bag, and the heaviest, held decorations. Strings of lighits and a few plastic cacti, and a green throw blanket with a koala bear embroidered on it.
You threw your arms around your father, barely containing the tears threatening to fall from your eyes. You thanked him over and over again. You were you going to miss them While you were gone though you were sure you'd be very busy at Hogwarts.
After a few more 'thank you's and hugs, you went back home with your bags of new cloths and teaching supplies, and began packing. It would be an understatement to say you were excited. You were more than that, extatic, nervous, a little scared, but so grateful to Dumbledore.
