Severus was surprisingly calm after the events that had transpired over the course of the last couple of months. He had thought that after kissing Y/n under the effects of the Amortentia potion, that he would have had to avoid her for the remainder of his life. Though after seeing Y/n stand at the court yard entrence, with the sun rays flowing through her silky hair, he felt a need he hadn't before. He wasnt sure if he was still under the influence of the Amortentia potion, but he shook that thought from his head.
Severus knew Y/n was a skilled witch, having gotten the Defense Against the Dark Arts teaching position, which he had wanted for years. He knew the bar was high for anoyone looking for that job, and to have Albus himself offer it to Y/n was nothing short of remarkable.
After Y/n had told him to look for her owl, Severus was eager for the day to end. He knew what her answer was going to be, or at least he had hoped he knew. Severus wasnt quite sure what emotions Y/n was bringing out in him, but he kind of enjoyed it. The electrifying feeling from the first kiss, even if under a love potions effects, had awoken something inside Severus, he had long since forgotten.
Dinner was as it always was, grand and loud with the students chatter. Severus couldnt help himself from stealing a gland for two in Y/n's direction. He felt his heart beat harder in his chest every time he laid eyes on her.
"Are you okay, Severus?" Minerva shook Severus from his thoughts.
"Fine, Minerva. Just fine." He said, stabbing at his plate.
"Youve got a right fowl frown, dear." She said, concern seeping through her voice.
"And thats different from any other day, how?" Severus said, taking a sip of his tea.
"Its not." Minerva looked out at the crowd of students with a smile. "You just look extra frown like today."
"As I said, Minny. Im fine." He looked out at the students, his eyes landing on Harry.
When it came to Harry Potter, Severus's emotions and intrests conflicted a million times over. The boy looked just like his father. The brown shaggy hair, the round glasses, the attitude. Severus wanted to expel the boy at any given moment. But every time he really looked at Harry, at his eyes, all Severus could see was Harrys mother. Her light green eyes and how they held such warmth.
Severus shook those thoughts from his mind as owls began the daily rounds. Mail began falling from the ceiling as the owls flew above their owners. Severus kept his eyes on every owl, only parting from them to give a side glance at Y/n every so often. He could have sworn he saw her smirk. The minx.
As the owls left the great hall, Severus couldnt help but feel a twinge of disappointment as no letter had fallen for him.
"Were you expecting mail, Professor Snape?" Y/n asked, her head leaned forward looking past the other teachers, her eyes on Severus only.
"No" He said, his voice a low growl. "I wasnt."
Severus got up from the table and excused himself to his room. He let his mind wander once more as he walked the castle walls down to the dungeons. Had Y/n given him her answer then? No owl, no letter. That had to be a no. Severus huffed as he pushed the door to his classroom open. He was going to go to his room and prepare for the evening, but after that he decided to just work.
Sitting down at his desk, Severus began grading papers. He let his emotions subside and focused on nothing but his work. He flipped through pages of tests and quizzes, marking many of them with red ink.
Severus looked at the clock and noticed that hours had passed. it was already almost midnight. He felt that pang of disappointment in his chest again before leaving his desk and entering his quarters.
He stopped in his tracks, the door wide open. A brown speckled barn owl, with an envelope grasped in its beak. Severus could feel his heart beat quicken with every slow painful step that he took. He carefully took the envelope from the owl, and watched it fly off.
Severus didnt even open the letter before rushing out of his living area into the dimly lit dungeon hall. His long strides carried him to his destination within seconds. He knocked on the door, not even caring at how late it was.
Within mere seconds that felt like an eterinty as Severus stood in the hall, the door opened and there stood Y/n. A dark blue robe wrapped around her body, hugging her figure tight.
"Severus," She gasped. "What took you so long"
A smile rested on her lips. Severus held up the envelope. "I didnt get it until just now."
"I sent that ages ago, Severus." Y/n chuckled.
"If you had just sent it during mail time, Y/n, it would have saved us both some grief." Severus scowled at the woman before him, her eyes glinting with mayhem.
"Grief? Oh please, no grief here." She chuckled softlt, moving aside to let Severus in.
"You really didnt open it?" She questioned, her eyes still on Severus.
"No. I didnt. I havent." Severus looked at the envelope then at Y/n.
He noticed her hair hung loosely over her shoulders, her eyes red with tired. He immediately felt bad for knocking on her door so late at night. He wasnt even really sure why he had knocked. Severus only knew that he had to see her. Right then. And not a minute later.
"Well, open it." Y/n stepped closer to him, her eyes settling on the envelope in his hand.
Severus just nodded. He traced the wax seal his fingers, feeling go the roughness of the parchment as he tore at the seal.
