Prologue:

Some would say that death is permanent - an end of a journey, in some ways.

Others believe that death is temporary - a momentary period of time where the soul is in oblivion, patiently waiting for the day it could return to earth.

After Kana received news that her parents had passed away in a tragic accident, she didn't quite know how to react to it. Thankfully, she had her loyal uncle and advisor, Ukai Keishin, to help her navigate her future position as the ruler of Pieta, a region in the north of Solaris. As she was the sole heir to the Hirano empire, a heavy responsibility fell on her shoulders at the young age of 18, way before she was even properly ready for it.

There was also a rumor circling around the palace and the town that her parents were assassinated by hired mercenaries. Because of this, Kana's uncle thought it would be best to hire more knights and guards to protect her. Ukai decided to recruit a young, well-established knight from a nearby city. His name was Iwaizumi Hajime, and he was known for eradicating hordes of his enemies with an elite group of people that he trusted. Ukai hired him for his intelligence, strength, and instinct in order to keep Kana alive and safe.

Iwaizumi was to remain by Kana's side, no matter what.

And of course, their relationship was strictly professional.
