Iwaizumi opened the door gently, keeping his gaze transfixed on the wooden floor because he knew that she was just wearing a nightgown. He didn't dare disrespect her in any way.
"I wanted to inform you that we'll be leaving early at dawn tomorrow so that we can reach our next destination before night falls." Iwaizumi explained.
"Thank you, Iwaizumi." She smiled softly.
He was about to shut the door behind him when he stopped, causing Kana's curiosity to peak.
"Are you alright, your highness?" He asked.
"... Yes, I'm fine." She answered, not wanting to make him worry.
Iwaizumi continued staring at the floor, not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable.
"You do not have to lie to me, princess." He murmured faintly.
Kana's eyes widened as she felt her heart flutter at the same time.
"King Washijou was out of line talking about you and your parents like that..." He grimaced, "He may be a king, but he has no honor."
Kana's mouth hung open slightly, stunned at his statements. This was the first time he talked about something other than her duties and responsibilities as a princess. In a way, it made her feel relieved.
"My parents passed away a few years ago as well," Iwaizumi continued, "They became ill and never recovered."
"Oh..." She nodded sympathetically, "I'm sorry, Iwaizumi. I didn't know that about you..."
"I didn't expect you to, your highness..." He cleared his throat, "I guess what I'm trying to say is that I understand the grief that you are going through so if you need someone to confide in... I'm here."
Kana was baffled, and eventually, after taking a few seconds to process his genuine words, she let out a small laugh. She strolled over to him, and Iwaizumi didn't quite know what to do. He didn't want to be impolite or dishonor her in any way but he wondered if he should meet her gaze. Before he could even make a decision, she gently placed her hand on his shoulder, startling him.
