"Uncle Keishin..." Kana mumbled, causing him to look up from his book, "Can I ask you about something?"
"Of course..."
"Iwaizumi..." She cleared her throat, "Why did you... recruit him?"
"You mean, as your knight?" Ukai raised an eyebrow.
"Yes..." Kana nodded, "King Washijou mentioned that he used to be an assassin..."
"That's right..." He crossed his arms and sighed, "A colleague of mine told me about him. He hired Iwaizumi for a few odd jobs here and there-"
"Odd jobs, as in..." She bit her lip apprehensively, "Killing people?"
"I suppose..." He murmured, "Although, he's not just an assassin. Iwaizumi has a lot of connections underground, and he's very intelligent when it comes to diplomatic matters."
"What do you mean by diplomatic matters?" Kana raised an eyebrow.
"He's very charming and convincing..." Ukai stated, "He has a way with words."
Kana suddenly recalled the moment when Iwaizumi told her that he wasn't very good with his words. Could he have been lying to her in an attempt to make her feel at ease with his presence? Or perhaps, he was hiding his true self from her because he didn't want her to know personal things about him? Granted, she barely knew anything about Iwaizumi except for the fact that he apologized a lot.
"If words don't work, then he has the skills to dispose of whoever disagrees with him..." Her uncle shrugged, "Simple, and highly effective."
"I thought you hired him to protect me..." Kana grimaced.
"I did!" He exclaimed, "You may not be the queen yet but your coronation will be soon. Once you take your place on the throne, there will be all kinds of plots against you."
"What..." She frowned, "How do you know that?"
"Kana... The thought of power makes people do crazy things." Ukai murmured, his eyes gleaming with grief.
