"Dad!" I called, running up to him. He engulfed me in his warmth. "We've been waiting for you!" I laughed.
"Me?" He joked. "Of course not." We went inside the cool, air-conditioned house.
"Grandpa!" Annie and Winter called, skipping up to him and grabbing his hands, tugging him into the living room. Elliot came rushing down the steps, holding Peter. I went over to him and tiny Peter, with his big blue eyes.
"Alan and Morgan are upstairs. Luke's with them." I nodded, thinking of my brother. Luke was killing in a cart accident two years ago. Morgan, who was expecting, gave birth to a baby boy. She and Alan named them Luke.
"Hey," Elliot said, bringing me back to reality. "It's okay," he said as if he could read my thoughts. He slid Peter into my arms. I walked back into the living room, where Annie and Winter were listening to Dad finish one of his "world-famous stories" as he calls them. He reached into his bag and pulled out silver- wrapped package. He handed it to Winter, saying, "I couldn't forget your birthday!" He pulled a red gift bag out and handed it to Annie. "Something for you too," he chuckled. The doorbell rang, and I went to answer it, although I already knew who was there.
"Haven't seen you in a while," Carolynn said. I smiled and led her inside. Alan and Morgan came down. Morgan was helping Luke walk towards Carolynn, who had a huge smile plastered into her face. Elliot came from behind me and pulled me into the kitchen.
"I love you, Evelyn," he smiled.
"I love you too," I replied as Winter ran into the room.
"Can we have cake now?" She asked, her icy-blue eyes shimmering.
"One step ahead of you," Elliot laughed, pulling a cake out of the refrigerator. I transferred Peter back into his crib upstairs then ran back into the kitchen. Elliot was sticking four candles into the cake. I grabbed the plates and forks and began setting the table. Everyone gathered around the long table as Elliot came walking out of the kitchen, singing Happy Birthday.
AHHHH! It's done! Finished! I thought this ending was SO CUTE! What did you guys think?
Anyway, thank you SO SO SO much for 800 reads! That's honestly just amazing. I've been working on my other book, The Day the Music Died, and either by the end of this month or next month it will be ready for regular updates (maybe). I'm excited for that one as well, and I can't wait for you guys to read it! Thanks so much! I love you, my Ducklings!
